Health disparity is the differences that exist between the health statuses of the population in a country. Health disparity not only affect the group of people facing the disparity, but it limits the degree of healthcarequality delivery in the state. There is a different type of healthcare disparities. The first is Race or ethnic disparity. This is a situation where a particular group of the population that belongs to a specific ethnic group is vulnerable to health condition than other groups in the country ( Aeby et al., 2017). Another healthcare disparity is based on income. This is a situation where those whose income is higher can access better healthcare than those whose income is lower ( Burgess et al., 2017).

Many factors cause racial or ethnic health disparity. The first factor is genetics. For instance, there are those who are biologically vulnerable to health conditions than others. For example, Black Americans are naturally vulnerable to chronic diseases than Caucasians. Other than genes, environmental conditions also cause disparity among different races. Further, race and ethnic background are also associated with differences in behaviors which cause health disparity among the population. Health disparity caused by income differences is due to factors such as education ( Meade, Mahmoudi& Lee, 2015). For instance, those who have high education get good jobs in the country. As a result, they have access to better health than those whose education level is low.

The nurses have a role in eliminating healthcare disparity in the country. First, the nurses should stop discriminating patient based on their educational background or ethnic background. The nurses have a role to eliminate stereotypes and focus on delivering care for all group of people despite different factors which subject them to social discrimination ( Rodríguez-Vilá et al., 2017). The nurse also needs to focus on the quality of care to all despite their background. Enhancing primary care should also be part of their role to eliminate healthcare disparity in the country.
