The Concept of the False Self

Every individual exhibits both the true and the false self. Most of the philosophers, poets, and seers have focused mainly on the explanation of the true self and ignored the false or betrayal self. As the writer continues to outline the concept of the real and fake self, he is interrupted by an interview with one of his colleague's child. The boy had instances of hard and challenging moments in school but later began to perform well. The boy is full of worries and fears. He fears that a man he saw while leaving school would stab him to death, so he doesn't sleep at night. He gets along with his father when he performs well (Winnicott 1990). The boy becomes defiant and gets into trouble at school. This story is an actual representation of the false self, where the boy makes everyone happy. Most people have been faced with such feelings of being unreal and real whereby they portray their false self to please everyone in the society. The result of this false self is feelings of sadness and causes discomfort to the individual. It would be equally important for parents and community to understand and realize the importance of letting each exhibit their true self. The happiness of one's self and being real to the person is very vital to any individual.

The Value of Depression

Depression is a term that is used to refer to any disorder or state that leads to introspection, feelings of awe, and having a negative mood. Depression has value, and people who are depressed are subject to hurt or even death. Anyone, including psychiatrists, could be affected by depression, but they chose to hide it behind their work. The environment facilitates the emotional development of an infant towards the maturation stage (Winnicott 1990). At a particular stage, the child becomes subject to stress and can get depressed, which shows emotional growth as a result of the ego strength. The psychology of depression has that there is always a reason behind mood. Sharing of one's fears could result in reduced depression, as shown in the simple case described. New experiences lead to reassessments that people view as depression. A depressed person doesn’t feel the meaning of exciting adventures. He/she may recover and become stronger than before. It is, therefore, essential to take keen note of a depressed person and offer them solitude to relief them from feelings of hurting themselves. Depression has affected a high percentage of individuals in the world, and it begins right after a child can view it as a unit.

Delinquency as a Sign of Hope

Delinquency is the act of misbehaving among the minors. This term is linked to the antisocial tendencies portrayed in children as the end product. Most children could be a nuisance to someone when dealing with them. In such cases, one can relate the delinquency to some factors such as poverty, broken homes, and inadequate housing. However, in such cases, it always begins with a specific illness that leads to deprivation of the child. Children who exhibit antisocial tendencies have a positive relationship with deprivation. Changes that occur to such children are as a result of changes that occur in the environment, and the child can understand them. Environmental disturbances do not produce antisocial tendencies (Winnincott, 1990). A child with an antisocial tendency will always struggle to have a life before the deprivation occurred, which is a sign of hope. Actions done during moments of hope have a particular satisfaction. Children can rediscover their aggressiveness when they are faced with fears, and they gain hope of having security. In any case, a child becomes aggressive or steals; the society opts to give the child a proper punishment which requires logical explanation. This, however, does not provide the real truth of why they caused the destruction. Every girl or boy would hope to have a psychotherapist who will listen to them about the phases of deprivation and would expect to get back to life before denial. Children always exhibit certain behaviours as a result of deprivation that arises due to antisocial tendencies. They need someone who will listen to them and give them hope as they recover from deprivation. Psychotherapists, society, and parents should analyze the situations that the child is in before judging.

Implications for treatment in a therapeutic relationship.

Therapeutic relationships refer to any association between a person undergoing therapy and a professional in health care whose associations are frequent and close (Ardito & Rabellino 2011). The implications for this relationship include: first, the person under treatment can communicate their feelings, emotions, and thoughts concerning the problem addressed. Second, it provides an atmosphere that is non-judgemental to the patient. Lastly, the environment is open and safe to the individual, and they feel at ease when sharing.
