State and Local Fusion centers play an essential role as far as the improvement of information sharing alongside intelligence coordination in homeland security are concerned. Regarding the concept behind the fusion centers, the fusion centers have a mission aimed at averting attacks by terrorists on U.S. soil. Before the establishment of the fusion centers, the United States already had systems to gather intelligence under the state police agencies. County police departments of major cities like Chicago, New York, and Los Angeles had departments gathering information related to theft rings, drug trafficking, smuggling of weapons, among other criminal activities ( Monahan, 2010)

The state and local fusion centers extend the work of the initially available intelligence units to combat the emerging trends in crimes that were not of a significant concern earlier. The emerging issues include the unwillingness of the FBI and the Department of Homeland Security to work harmoniously among each other ( Monahan, 2010) . Other issues include information-sharing networks that have become too many and lack of a unified federal strategy focusing on information sharing.

Domestic terrorism is a crucial security issue in the United States that prompted the formation of the FBI's Joint Terrorism Task Force (JTTF). The Joint Terrorism Task Force of the FBI focuses on combating terrorism, both domestic and international terrorism. Its primary role is investigating attacks that related to weapons of mass destruction, the weapons of mass destruction include biological agents, radiological, nuclear weapons as well as chemical ( Herman, 2005) . Additionally, the JTTF tackles offenses related to terrorism that include money laundering, violence emanating from airports alongside attacks on the United States' officials.

Importantly the Federal Bureau integrates with the U.S. intelligence agencies and the Director of National Intelligence to probe information from intelligence regarding domestic threats on security. The other role of the FBI is protecting the United States and its persons as a top priority against terrorist attacks, for instance, domestic terrorist attacks.
