Intelligence refers to the essential information required during decision making ("Intelligence | Federal Bureau of Investigation", 2020). It involves the ability to reason logically, identify, and solve problems. Intelligence comes in handy when making important security decisions. There are five types of intelligence collection methods, known as the intelligence collection disciplines.

Human Intelligence (HUMINT), particularly refers to intelligence collected from human sources. It is the oldest method of intelligence collection. This can be done through open methods such as interviewing the suspect or conducting a survey on the case. The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), is a security agent that uses this discipline to collect intelligence within the United States. Internationally, the CIA uses this method to gather intelligence abroad through clandestine or covert methods ("Federal Bureau of Investigation - Directorate of Intelligence - "INTS" - The Intelligence Collection Disciplines", 2020) . This method can be used by Homeland Security to gather intelligence on previous terrorist attacks launched by a specific terrorist group. This will enable them to plan counter-attack strategies.

Another type of intelligence collection discipline is Imagery Intelligence (IMINT), which is also called Photo Intelligence (PHOTINT). This method involves the collection of intelligence by taking photos associated with the investigations and analyzing the images. This method was first used during the civil was where soldiers used balloons to collected intelligence related to their surroundings. This method was also prominent in the two world wars where soldiers from both sides used aeroplanes to take photos and collect useful information about their rivals. This method is used by the National Reconnaissance Office design who build and operate imagery satellites and use them to gather intelligence on criminal activities. Another agency that processes and uses this type of intelligence is the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency ("Federal Bureau of Investigation - Directorate of Intelligence - "INTS" - The Intelligence Collection Disciplines", 2020) . Homeland Security could also benefit by using this discipline to collect imagery data from a terrorist camp and analyze the intelligence to understand their methods of operation and way of living. This would be a step in counterterrorism.

I believe that Measurements and Signatures Intelligence (MASINT) as identified in the FBI list, is the most important type of intelligence for counterterrorism operations ("What is Intelligence?", 2020) . This is because the intelligence analyzes the terrorist group's weapons and capabilities to predict the impact of their terrorist attacks. The method can also be used to know how much effort and ammunition is required to defeat them in combat.
