Contemplating upon Hogenboom’s article “How Cancer Was Created by Evolution”, it becomes apparent that the author here expands the insight into profoundly-complex characteristics of cancel cells to a great extent. A peculiar thing is that the given piece of research itself endows readers with an opportunity to reconsider their views on what may potentially lead to cancer cell growth; in other words, as the article unfolds, the author draws particular attention to cellular mechanisms of cancel development, which in turn gives the chance to vividly see what cancer is and how it usually grows, respectively. Speculating upon this very science writing, one cannot but encounter the fact that it comes to directly improve the public’s awareness of the cancer risk factors. Since it makes an emphasis on the increasing number of cancer cases along with deaths, one can assume that reading it can result in perceptions of cancer in society evolving dramatically. After a thorough consideration, it is not an exaggeration to say that Hogenboom provides us with fresh new insights into cancer development, and, thus, his research paper indisputably deserves to be seriously addressed.

Yes, the author sharpens his focus on a truly global problem of fast-moving cancer, and the survey he conducts actually contributes positively to bringing science a little bit closer to understanding this dangerous disease. Moving through the article, it is important to indicate that the author puts a lot of effort into conveying an extremely crucial message, which consists in a dire need for the deepening of knowledge in cancer genetics. The focus here lies in arguing that, in Hogenboom’s opinion, the importance of “...evolutionary thinking that is now leading to pioneering treatments.” (2016) cannot be understated. Obviously, development and spread of cancer in the 21 st century emerges to be a burning issue today. However, reading the aforementioned research article on the difficulties in cancer treatment intends patients with cancer to cultivate hopes as an integral part of the recovery process. Significantly, the latest research findings reveal that it is owing to the ongoing evolutionary approaches to tackle cancer that this heterogeneous disease can be cured in the nearest future. In particular, Swanton’s theory suggests that a cancer tumour should be identified as a tree having a number of branches; and such an approach to interpreting the nature of cancer is viewed as the major factor that may increase the likelihood of preventing further tumour progression. More importantly, many cancer researchers, including, Alberto Bardelli have successfully implemented Swanton’s new treatment methods that rely on targeting one of basal mutations in order “...to destroy every cell in the tumour.” (Hogenboom, 2016) Arguably, “...in the not too distant future, genomic features of every patient’s cancer type will be characterized at the point of diagnosis.” (Yates & Campbell, 2012, p. 804)

In sum, one can conclude that the article should be qualified as a trustworthy source due to making mention of many issues associated to cancer, which are equally vital to research. One cannot but give Hogenboom credit for providing critical reflection upon the revolutionary new approaches to conquer a scary diagnosis in these turbulent times; and, since the purpose of his article seems to be ascertaining all the strengths and weaknesses of new approaches to the problem, rather than predominantly justifying them, I find it both helpful and interesting.
