1. Locate a recent (last 2 years) news article related to climate change. Please pick
a substantial article, not a short note/news flash, or you will not have enough
material to work with to successfully answer the questions. Post the title and source
immediately on the discussion board so that others do not choose the same article.
2. Summarize the article:
The article by Gray & Merzdorf, (2019), Earth's Freshwater Future: Extremes of Flood and Drought is an article about climate change by NASA's climate scientists. This article majorly focuses on how warming temperatures and precipitation levels contribute to drought and flooding. This concept is in line with the view of other scientists since it is evident that little rain and increased temperatures may bring drought and too much of it may cause flooding (Gray & Merzdorf, 2019). As a reviewer of this article, I would term it credible for airing on the news and weather channels because it will promote awareness about climate change to society.
3. What are the major human activities that contribute to carbon dioxide increase in
the atmosphere?
The major human activities that raise the amount of carbon dioxide in the air are the industrialization with increased emission of gases and fumes.
Delegate your assignment to our experts and they will do the rest.
4. What is the key difference between past climate change on our planet and current climate change on our planet?
The key difference between climate change in the past and currently is that; in the past, human activities like farming and less disturbance of the forests did not highly impact the temperatures and precipitation levels. However, these days growing population is demolishing forests and establishing industries that emit gases that break the ozone layer leading to increased temperatures and unpredictable precipitation pattern.
5. Which of the many potential negative effects of rapid climate change do you believe will have the greatest economic costs in the U.S.? Which things will have the greatest economic costs in less developed regions of the world?
Flooding will be the costliest effect that the US could suffer as a result of rapid climate change. I believe so because flooding can be as hard to control as the government has always done with tornadoes and hurricanes. Less costly irrigation methods can be used to produce food for the case of drought from increased temperatures. Both flooding and drought will have more economic costs to less developed countries.
6. Science can help us understand what is occurring in our bodies and on our planet. What will be done in response to the science depends on political will, and at least to some extent in the Western world, to public opinion? Consider how we allot federal and state resources to disease prevention or cure and use this idea to come up with 5 key things you think our country should do now in response to the current science of climate change. Consider how these funding allotments might affect you now, versus how doing or not doing these things might affect your grandchildren in 20 or 30 years .
Our country should establish policies that aim at curbing climate change. Further, it should promote more research into climate change and fund those research bodies. The country should educate its citizens on practices that can help reduce the causes and effects of climate change. Also, for the cases that have gone out of hand, the country can always be prepared with measures. At this current situation, the effort by the government will keep us some distance away from the consequences of climate change. However, in the next two or three decades, if funding to curb climate change is taken lightly, the next generations will have to live in a dying planet since the effect of climate change will be beyond repair.
