Both conservatism and socialism are ideologies held by different individuals in society. In politics, each ideology has supporters based on the benefits associated with it. Consequently, they are used by leaders to solicit support and for governance. Conservatism involves the will of people to stay attached to their history; thus, it is attributed to the resistance to change. However, if the change becomes inevitable, it becomes a form of continuity of the existing norms (Alexander, 2014). On the other hand, socialism is a system of governance where the government holds the factors of production rather than private individuals and profiteers ( Edwards, 2018) . Usually, the system aims at ensuring economic and social equality.

Any government attains economic and social goals based on a specific ideology. Politics in the U.S. are dominated by classical liberalism. Thus, conservatives stress for economic rights, business, and money, as well as religious fundamentalism (Magstadt, 2015, p. 44). They advocate for economic stability, including a stable currency. The view of conservatives concurs with Karl Marx's theory that justice and the end to human misery are achieved through a fundamental reorganization in a society based on economic relationships (Magstadt, 2015, p. 66). However, they offer very little charitable work.

In the U.S., socialism is applied by the democratization of all spheres of life; hence, it is not just limited to the economy. There was a shift towards socialism because of the great economic recession in 2008. As a fact, most Americans are willing to live under communism compared to capitalism ( Edwards, 2018) . Therefore, the Democratic Socialists of America advocate for socialism manifestos during campaigns by challenging the incumbent democrats in primaries. The democratic socialists intend to convert private sectors into public utilities. As a result, there is a central government and federalism (Magstadt, 2015, p. 96). However, America has both the federal and state governments with the separation of powers.
