Despite the fact that I am optimistic about the government’s performance in the future, I strongly hold the opinion that the government still needs to do a lot with regards to fulfilling its mandate to the people. When Donald Trump took over the mantle from President, he had numerous positive plans that would make America great again. Trump offered to revolutionize health insurance policies, restore jobs back to the Americans, and prevent illegal immigrants from taking advantage of the opportunities in the country.

However, I feel that that the government needs to do more to ensure that even the common citizen benefits. The government has over the past proved to be wasteful in its spending and corruption in key offices remains an unsolved issue. All this have impacted on the citizen's confidence in the government as only a paltry 29% trust that the government will always do what is right for them. The government has also taken much control over the business in the country thereby giving no room for the citizens to control the economy. The federal taxes are also too high hence a major burden to the low-income earners in the country.

The government still needs to do a lot with regards to securing its people. Another important role of the government that also needs improvement is on the upholding of the freedoms and rights of the people. Welch et al . (2013) asserted that it is important to note that the amendment rights are inherent and the government can only be limited to promoting but not taking them away from the people. For instance, there have been cases of police brutality, unwarranted arrest, and use of excessive force by the police among others. However, all these problems can be fixed with proper implementation of policies and the strict adherence to the constitution.
