What do you consider your own class standing to be and why?
I consider my class standing to be middle class based on my family background. My parents managed to send me to acquire college education, which is not normal for those living in the lower class. Additionally, my family owns a home and each one of us has a health insurance cover. Furthermore, we often go for holidays at least one a year. Some of these activities are privileges that individuals in the lower class do not get to enjoy. However, the lifestyle that I lead and that of my family significantly falls short of what individuals in the upper class gets to enjoy.
Do you see class representation in the movies you watched in ways that match accurately your own experience of class? Explain your answer.

The two movies demonstrates aspects of social class where different characters gets to lead different lifestyles based on social class one is affiliated to. In the film The Grapes of Wrath , it is possible to differentiate characters between different social classes, the Joad’s and the immigrants (Chan, 2019). Factors such as landownership differentiates those living in upper and lower classes. On this specific film, it is easier to relate the nature of life the Joad’s and the immigrants live with that of my family. There seems to be a pattern where in both cases, families struggle to retain their social class or improve it. Similarly, the film The Great Gatsby demonstrates the existence of social class among its characters. In the film, it is evident that money is a significant shield against accountability such that those in the upper class behaves recklessly when in public domain (YouTube Movies, 2013). They are able to run away from problems and live as if they did not commit their mistakes without the fear of being caught and made accountable. Moreover, the film introduces the issue of American dream and indicates that to live it, one must have possession of earthly wealth including cars, white color jobs, and money.
Do you see any stereotypes about class or certain members of a class in these movies?
The Grapes of Wrath has some stereotype associated to it and the concept of social class. The parameter used to differentiate individuals between the diverse social classes include landownership where those in upper social class own their homes while lower class people are mainly tenants. The film The Great Gatsby demonstrates stereotypical perspectives where rich people are not made accountable for the mistakes they commit. Such thinking is misinformed because it illustrates that the justice system within a country are not fair enough because they do not work when the rich are involved. Such a perspectives questions whether some policies are made to influence only the poor people in a given society.
