How Hollywood's Studio System Has Changed Over the Years

Hollywood Studio System evolved gradually, and its evolution was the contributions of many people. Although it had its ups and downs, it was able to keep up with the challenges and ready to embrace them in different areas. 

The Hollywood Studio system initially started producing motions films without sound. But later on with the contributions and handworks of the likes of Lee de Forest who perfected early inventions to make it possible to have sounds associated with the films. Lee de Forest made a thousand plus films with music with different genres to market his idea of sound on films. Although, initially it faced resisted from the well-known studio of the then, who wanted to maintain the public image by maintaining films without sound. Le de Forest never gave up on his idea of sound on film though, and he didn't have the support of the studio until Warner Bros., the studio took their chance with the idea of sound on film when the shot a film in 1927 (Dixon & Foster, 2008) . When the film was released, it was well accepted by the audiences. The success of this film was a great revolution to the Hollywood Studio system since it came it a lot of changes.

Although Lee de Forest sound-on film had gained success in the Hollywood Film industry, a new competitor was already in the market that is Vitaphone which emphasizes on sound-on-disc (Dixon & Foster, 2008) . Even with competition sound – on-film had been embraced by many studios, and it was standardized. 

The growth of the Hollywood Film system has been greatly influenced by the current affairs affecting the audience. For instance, the Great Depression and World war II great influence the kind of system that was required by the audience. Even though it was really cumbersome working with microphones to record sound major advancement was made in the Hollywood Film System that improved the quality of sound (Dixon & Foster, 2008)

It was until 1935 when Hollywood Film System produced a colour film with a three-strip colour camera which was created by Herbert T. Calmus. Initially, films were shot only with two primary colours, that are black and white. The Technicolor was very dominant in the Hollywood Film system after its adoption by many studios. 

Many movie stars from different background have been born in the Hollywood Film system even though the system has been majorly owned by the rich. The star's ranges from movie directors to movie actors, for instance, John Ford, a movie directed who recreated himself and became very successful. With his success as a director, he recreates movie star actors from the movie he was the director, for example, Wayne as an actor had been so unlike for nine while acting but John Ford recreated him and made him very successful. Another movie star is Howard Hawks, who was very flexible working with different studio and different genres that made him very popular and successful movie star (Dixon & Foster, 2008) . The list of successful movie start that has been born from the Hollywood Film industry is endless the likes of Walter Disney, who has been very successful and dominated the cartoon world. 

The success of every movie stars on the Hollywood Film system has been influenced by different factors. Handworks have been witnessed across all the movie stars but also the genres in which the movie start is playing has shown a major support for the success of the movie star.
