I encountered an interpersonal situation with my elementary teacher that involved an ethical issue. When I was a child, I had issues making friends, and in elementary school, I had no friends. I would spend my playtimes alone, and one day my tutor noticed my situation. She approached me and coached me on ways of getting friends. The teacher believed that I had the potential to make friends. Every day she would spare her time to motivate and encourage me to make friends, and fortunately, in a few weeks, I had developed the ability to make new friends. She built the social being in me.

The situation depicted an ethical issue because the teacher did not find me weird or reprimanded me in any way. She knew what to say to build my confidence that enhanced my ability to be social and make friends. The teacher saw the social potential that I could not see. The situation is related to the Maslow hierarchy of needs in the aspect of self-esteem needs. The teacher realized I had low self-esteem, and she tried to raise it. She would use the right words for this situation to raise my self-esteem. For instance, she kept saying I was smart, beautiful, and kind; therefore, everyone would want to have me as a friend. Luckily, her efforts were fruitful.
