If the election relied solely on the popular vote, how might many Americans votes 'not count' toward the election outcome? Explain.

The popular vote does not count in the election of the presidential election. Instead, electoral college tally consisting of 538 electors is given precedence. Those who created the system did not want to create a pure majority-rule kind of democracy as that may create an anarchy system. The college of electors are people who are chosen by most people in each state and that they have the qualification requirements for the job.

While some opponents of the electoral college claim that the electoral college was set up to reinforce the institution of slavery, what did you read that disputes this argument?

The dispute to this argument reinstates that the electoral college unifies all states and that it makes it possible for every region to have a say in the federal management system. Also, it prevents big cities from taking advantage of popular votes to elect their preferred leader. I noted that it might dismantle the federalism. As a result, there will be no sense of the Senate and even the essence of states may diminish as there will be no strong representation in the government.

Why was the electoral college results significant in the presidential election of 2016?

The electoral college is a process. The electors are chosen from every state in the country who then vote to elect the leader. In the 2016 election, the vote is spread all over all the states. Therefore, those regions which had super majority may form anarchy in electing a president and vice president if the popular vote were to be used.

What meaning do you gather from the political cartoon provided that shows the map of the United States without the electoral college?

It depicts a divided nation, which is not organized. There is no doubt that lack of electoral college may not favour those states with the fewer number of people. The states may get dismantled and they may not function properly as some may feel unrecognised.
