The application of skills is an important part of education and career development. In my training, I have had an opportunity to apply my professional knowledge by joining an internship program at Tampa Bay Watch. Tampa Bay provided me with the chance to use the skills I learned in class and the various qualities I have learned throughout my life in the workplace. Tampa Bay Estuary EDventures has enabled me the opportunity to learn more about environmental conservation skills that I hadn’t learned in class. Specifically, I have learned about the preservation of estuarine life. The program’s “plankton encounter” is one activity that helped me a great deal with regards to professional development. Through the event, I studied several microorganisms with the help of a microscope. I learned the importance of such small animals in the estuary ecology. In the study of estuarine microorganisms, I applied the knowledge of the use of a microscope and the concept of the recording of environmental details during studies.
My number one professional goal is to learn more skills in the field of work and gain more experience. More experience and skills are essential in making me a better and more competent officer in environmental preservation and conservation. Growing professionally is yet another professional goal that I wish to achieve. On this note, I have a goal of starting off as a junior officer and growing all the way to becoming a senior officer in my line of profession. Apart from that, I wish to master technical skills in the field of work and relate them effectively to the concepts learned in class. I also have a professional goal to build a network of contacts in my field of study. Such professional connections are important in referring me to appropriate jobs in the future. Gaining professional confidence is another professional goal that I have and wish to achieve. These are the goals I would like to achieve in given an opportunity of work or internship.

In my internship program, I have had various experiences that involved working together with the community in support of learning. One notable experience is when I was involved in a community education program. This particular experience gave me the opportunity to impart knowledge of environmental conservation to the members of the community. Tampa Bay Watch believes in training the members of the community on the various ways to conserve the environment to help them improve environmental awareness. In my experience, I shared the various concepts learned in the field of work, as well as those learned in class relating to environmental conservation.
The internship also subjected me to a couple of targeted professional growth opportunities, which also helped expand my professional experience even better. Getting the chance to involve in more duties and responsibilities at work is one such opportunity that enabled me to increase my professional knowledge. During my internship period, I got the opportunity to handle certain responsibilities that were not part of my job description. I took the initiative to act in the absence of other officers who were in charge of other responsibilities whenever they were out of work. This enabled me to take up newer challenges and extra assignments that positively impacted my professional development. I also involved myself in conducting research, another activity that offered a perfect opportunity to improve my professional skills and knowledge. I conducted research, alongside other officers and interns on estuarine ecology, a very important topic in my field of study. Conducting research enabled other environmental officers and me to learn of concepts and ideas that I had not known prior to any of those researches. Moreover, presenting the findings of the research to other people not involved in the research helps improve other people’s professional skills and knowledge.
Professional ethics and professional values are very important for workplaces. In my period of internship at Tampa Bay Watch Inc., I was introduced to the basic codes of conduct at the organization, ethics, and values that were required of every organizational member at Tampa bay Watch Inc. I made an effort to maintain respect for others at all times, key professional ethics that is required of all organizational members. Respecting others enabled me to develop a good working relationship with my colleagues at all times. As an intern, respect for other enabled other organizational members to the ease to help me through certain concepts that were new to me. I also worked hard to maintain the law of the country and that of the organization. Obeying the law was important in ensuring that I do not get into trouble with the authorities or leaders at the organization.
I also exhibited integrity during my internship period at Tampa Bay Watch, Inc. I developed a habit to portray honesty in all my interactions with colleagues. Specifically, I told the truth at all times. I specifically exhibited honesty with work reports, such as research reports. I employed integrity and ensured that I presented all truthful reports. Another professional value that I exhibited was presenting myself as a continuous learner. This implies to my effort to open my mind for learning from colleagues and reading research reports to constantly improve my professional education and skills at the place of work. Teamwork is another important professional value that I applied during my internship. Working as a team was important in maximizing the output level at the organization. Moreover, working as a team helped improve professional skills because we worked and learned from each other.
