There are many coming-of-age films. However, the film Lady Bird is unique and memorable due to its cinematic element. The film nostalgically explores the age being left behind by the protagonist and the new phase of life she is about to enter. The filmmakers were interested to present the film as a memory. However, they were keen to make it unique by ensuring that it did not look like self-conscience. In order to achieve this, it was crucial to have the right balance by ensuring that the audience was not too insider or removed from the scenes. Therefore, conventional camera work was out of the question and a handheld camera would also defeat the purpose. The balance was achieved by connecting the audience to a scene, but also ensuring that they are a little removed from it. The camera work was essential in achieving this.
The connection to the experiences of the protagonist through the camera work and angles made the film enjoyable. It felt like the audience was living in the memory of the character rather than the present life of the character, like is the case in conventional films. The cinematic language gave the film a unique feel that gave it a lasting impression. One of the things I would change in the film to make it better is the editing. Some of the shots are introduced to the audience and dispatched rapidly. As a result, I missed some of the meaning and jokes of the scenes. Some of the shots could be a bit longer so that the story could be more developed.

The movie had a positive impact on me since it gave an honest impression of the experiences of teenagers and their parents. Teenage hood is a confusing time for both children and their parents. Therefore, since the film looks at the coming of age event from the perspective of the teenager, the audience has a better understanding of this phase. The scene that stood out was the one when Lady Bird jumped out of a moving car when they had a disagreement about colleges with the mother ( Gerwig , 2018). This was a telling scene as it showed the vulnerable mental state that teenagers experienced when they are transitioning to adulthood. The film has prepared me for my role as a parent since I will make more effort to understand my children, rather than look to impose my feelings and thoughts on them. Therefore, the impact of the film has definitely been positive.
Patterns are important in the procession of a story. However, editors make them smooth and the transitions fat so that the story does not get fragmented or interrupted. One way to discover patterns is to determine how the characters and their stories relate to each other ( Barsam & Monahan, 2013) . This is the simplest way of establishing a pattern in a plot. Patterns are important since they enable the audience to understand how a story serves the society’s cultural and sociological needs.
The father is unemployed and hence he cannot fulfill the stereotypical role ascribed to fathers by the society. As a result, the family was struggling financially. As a result, he had to depend on financial aid since he was not financially self-sufficient. This vulnerability is evident when he gets the financial aid forms and filled them out ( Gerwig , 2018). The assistance was a huge relief for a man who was under financial pressure to care for his family.
The mother’s hardship forms a significant part of the plot. However, instead of showing the mother's hardship from the viewpoint of her danger, I would have tried to show this aspect of her life through her life and memories. This approach would ensure that the audience connects to her struggle more personally.
