As such, there is a culmination in a family crisis characterized by non-traditional familial trends as childless unions and single-parent households leading to broken family values regarding the future outcomes of the children. For example, compared to children from stable unions, a 10% higher probability of drug abuse exist in children from divorced parents (Gustavsen et al., 2016). Therefore, the ordained family institution is threatened by lack of lifelong unions affecting traditional family values as the building block of human civilizations.

Children from such a union lack the essence of long life commitments, denying them the chance to benefits of marriage, including physical and mental health. However, some unions may be broken by life course events necessitating mobility like work or immigration denying such families’ roles play of civic duty and social order that a stable family is supposed to perpetuate (Clark &Lisowski, 2017).

Also, long life marriages are as well supposed to teach about reproductive functions and regulate generative behavior. From the onset, such values are cultivated in the children bred in stable marriages, acting as a deterrent to intended or unintended cohabitation or as occasioned by pregnancies because it is unlikely that such union may lead to marital success (Sassler et al., 2016). To enjoy optimal physical and mental health at older ages such as lower mortality rates lifelong unions should be encouraged, which will translate to intact transitioning of traditional family values (Stafford et al., 2019).
