Local and world events have a tremendous effect on tourism. The events tend to shape tourism activities to a more significant magnitude. The events can have either a positive or a negative impact on tourism. The aim of events is to create a positive destination image, increase the tourist-destination, increase the economic revenue of the destination, expand the traditional tourist season, and draw international and national visitors 1 .

Countries that are at war have a negative influence on tourism. No tourist with a sound mind can dare visit a war-torn nation. Individuals that visit nations at war are majorly journalists who attend those nations to cover war news and general suffering of the people. The government at that time is more concerned with fighting the war and not at tourist attractions. No nation at war can ever be a scenic beauty. A safe and secure nation is more attractive for tourists, and thus tourists can easily visit such country.

Attraction from tourism comes in the form of events, which include festivals from small communities, through to international trade fairs, and on to the largest of global sporting events 2 . Significant events for instance, Olympics and world cup have a tremendous effect on the nations in which they are hosted. Several people stream into those nations to watching such critical activities. For example, during the 2010 FIFA world cup in South Africa, more than 300,000 people visited the country. The people who attended the nation spent an average of ten days in hotel rooms and other recreational centers. There was increased shopping and enjoyment of nightlife. There was nine percent increased awareness of South Africa as a tourist destination after the FIFA world cup.

Tourism exhibitions within a nation can boost tourist activities. Countries that organize different kinds of shows, for instance, cultural presentations tend to attract more tourists. Cultural exhibitions attract both local and international tourists. Furthermore, tourism exhibitions have laid opportunities to enter different countries 3

Their unique sense of beauty and entertainment are a significant tourist attraction. Economic displays equally attract tourist’s different classes of tourists who can to either partake in economic activities. A showcase of technological events also boosts tourist activities in the host nations. The major advantages of a community that is hosting any event includes having a sense of pride as the hosting community and social and economic uplift 4 .
