White privilege is a state of affairs that gives people of race significantly less advantage as opposed to white people. Having been institutionalized, white privilege stands tall in propounding the ideologies and contributions of white people as opposed to people of color. With this unique set of circumstances, it is inevitable that the other races will be adopting the culture of white people at the expense of their own cultures, due to the dominating nature of white privilege. As a result, the cultures of other races will inevitably suffer unavailability and therefore, deterioration. As children learn more about white culture due to the white privilege, it becomes harder for them to keep in touch with their cultures, thereby being absorbed.

However, the case could be different for Europeans who migrated into the Americas in the 20 th century. While they are not purely white, they still enjoy white privileges due to their unique circumstances. For example, access to resources would still be at the same level as those of white Americans. This is because Europeans are considered as equally white compared to people of color, and this equality affords them special privilege in the country that white people would get. Moreover, such Europeans largely maintain their cultures, such as living together in large family groups, celebrating holidays and maintaining language ties. As a result, much of their culture remains intact, especially in social settings such as family gatherings and community events.

Comparing the two articles ‘ Dying Preventable Deaths ’ and ‘ Understanding White Privilege ’, we understand the adverse effects of white privilege on the lifespan of white and non-white individuals. White privilege provides almost unlimited access to healthcare, which is largely limited to people of color. As a result, deaths occur that would otherwise be preventable. Should white privilege have had a more inclusive nature, preventable deaths even among people of race would have been prevented. As a result, the institutionalization of white privilege, while having its positives, also has adverse effects to sections of the population.
