Although lean was originally utilized in the manufacturing industry, it is increasingly applicable to other sectors such as the service industry. As a salon owner and a stylist at Hair Issues Inc., I have to ensure that I apply the principles of lean to improve customer experience and improve my productivity. First, I will start by reducing waste. Organization is key inside the salon to avoid unnecessary movement of clients as they wait for the hair services. Secondly, wastage will be reduced by minimizing waiting time. Since I am currently a one woman business, I can consider recruiting a support staff to reduce the prospect of waiting on the line.
Secondly, I will apply the components of the 5S to ensure that my business offers competitive services. By sorting, I will remove all the unused machines and furniture from the business unit. I will use straightening as a way of organizing everything left behind. In shining, I will decorate the building and use attractive paintings and images to attract clients. Through standardization, I will ensure that my clients consistently receive their desired services in a manner that guarantees value. Then I will finish with sustenance where I ensure that quality becomes my brand across all the salon services.
Delegate your assignment to our experts and they will do the rest.
My new recruit and I must specify a common way in which we speak to each other and the other clients. I will be the one communicating to the employees due to my vast experience. However, both of us must show create and maintain a shared understanding and speak the same language always. For instance, when am not in the salon, the recruit must provide clients with the necessary information similarly with the way I would have provided. Lastly, all problems that arise in the shop should be solved scientifically with the person causing the problem being at the center of the solution. If one of us sends a customer away due to poor attitude, we should make up for our behavior and ensure that more clients come.
