When one is an expatriate, he or she must have several characteristics that will enable him to work with ease and be successful in his or her assignment. Therefore, in this paper, I will discuss the abilities that a candidate can have that will make him or her succeed in his or her assignment as an expatriate and explain some of those abilities that I have and how one can acquire those abilities.
The abilities that a candidate must have to succeed are adaptability, creativity, respect for local communities, and mentoring skills (Noe, 2018). In adaptability, flexibility is key when working in a new environment since different nations have different ways of doing things, and one must cope with their pace. In creativity, it is normal for challenges to come up while working in another country, but as an expatriate, one should have the ability to find innovative solutions to solve (Noe, 2018). Creativity helps solve problems and work to run smoothly. Respect for the local communities; it is hard to come to terms with foreigners, but it promotes a good working environment. Locals in the foreign country would love their cultures not interfered with but respected so that work would run smoothly. Mentoring skills are applied to the local communities to acquire the skills required. Since different regions work differently and coordination is, then as an expatriate, you have to mentor them for things to go well as I have been doing in the different regions I have been assigned. Lastly, communication must exist between the expatriate and HR leaders to ensure they get all the required resources for work. (Noe, 2018).
Delegate your assignment to our experts and they will do the rest.
Among all those abilities, I am very flexible after changing my location, and I have excellent communication skills, both verbal and non-verbal. I also have a sharp wit thus outstanding in finding solutions for any problem arising. Also, being very respectful, I think it is easy for me to cope with the new community in the new environment. One can acquire those abilities through cultural training, especially communication and critical thinking. Also, they can be acquired by coaching and mentorship to ensure the candidate understands the company's culture and have ample time working with colleagues.
