Information Competency
I am aiming to be a Professional Procurement Official. It comprises the management of all operations, purchasing and supply chain activities, and all other operations between the times a need is identified to the time it is satisfied. The procurement industry spans wide and is utilized in almost all industries across the globe. Each organization is at minimum involved in the purchase or supply of articular items or products which guarantee profits at the end of the month. With this, procurement is a profession or department that is present in all industries and organization. A procurement Official is a wide job description that is not limited to one industry of choice.
Through this profession, I would prefer to join the Logistics Industry. Currently, the advancement of technology and transportation systems has allowed for the interconnection of nations and global trade. Through this, Procurement is evident in all areas of the world. In the Logistics Industry, Clearing and Forwarding Companies, or Logistics Companies would be a perfect fit. Essentially those with international partners.

Being in the Logistics Industry requires the Procurement person to be well conversant with other players in the market. Identifying the different competitors, suppliers, and consumers in the market who would better aid in the Logistical operations and also provide the Organization with business. From this industry, collecting contacts of people across large organizations would be an easy task, as any International Organization requires a Clearing and Forwarding Agent for imports and exports of their products. In attaining these, one will be able to expand their network, as making themselves identified across the platform is easy. However, one has to ensure their company’s online presence is strong and well recognized. Being present in Social Media sites such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and other sites that would better aid to strengthen its presence in the eyes of the consumers is important. In this manner, an international recognition through their website and Directory and Social Media sites guarantees the continuous recognition and expansion of the Company and constantly, an increase in the network of the Procurement Official.
Learning Skills Reflection
When juggling several important things, an individual can be clouded with the immense responsibility that is at hand, and is unable to cope. It is important to develop specific coping mechanisms which aid in mental relaxation to ensure the person is able to cope. Personally, I schedule the times to which I am required to operate and on which activity. Scheduling time better drives one to achieve better results at the end of a given day. Where one has a lot of time on their hands, they achieve less than they anticipated. In this manner, having a timetable which states which time of the day is allocated to which item will aid in stress management (Chapman and Rupured, 2008).
Secondly, ensuring that at the beginning of the day, all the different goals and objectives to be attained in that given day are identified and written down. In this manner, it will be easier to determine the progress once has made in a given area. Stress stems from the feeling of un-accomplishment in a given area and thus results in a mental blockage where a person feels as though they are being pressured to compete a given task within a short period of time. However, by identifying that which has been completed and that which remains, a person is able to lessen the pressure and schedule themselves accordingly (Chapman & Rupured, 2008).
Thirdly, it is important to get a period of the day where one can just unwind. I utilize soothing music for this purpose. Through it, I am able to relax myself and take the edge off. Hence, when transitioning from one point to another, listening to music gets my mind to relax and move on to the next item.
Prior to this, having no schedule was a chaotic experience in managing, school, work and networking. The mind was constantly clogged and under pressure hence operating normally or at full capacity was difficult. However, having identified with schedules, I am able to achieve much more than I could in a shorter span of time. Working across work, school, networking and personal life.
Grit and Growth Mindset
Confucius, A Chinese philosopher, once stated that “it does not matter how slow you go, as long as you do not stop”. In life, there are many situations which can lead a person to be demotivated in other areas of their life. Maintaining their professional career becomes increasingly difficult where life’s challenges are weighing someone down. It is thus important to ensure that at all times, one is motivated to pursue a certain end result, even where challenges in another area are weighing them down. Employing certain strategies as values in personal life will aid a person to remain motivated even when faced with challenges.
The first strategy is to ensure that a person eliminates procrastination in their day to day life. Challenges in a person’s private life can ultimately pour over to their professional life where they start procrastinating on work to be done. In networking, pushing meetings, and other important tasks to aid in a person’s network can greatly delay the success of an individual in networking. Hence, a person must ensure that they eliminate procrastination in all areas of their life as a key value (Chapman & Rupured, 2008)
A person can identify places where they are not distracted from the challenges they face. For instance, if a person is constantly working at home, personal challenges may hinder success in their work and thus, identifying locations which aid them to concentrate better can be another motivator (Slack, 2015).
It is also important for a person to meditate and ensure at very given period in time, you have set clear goals with milestones. These goals, in networking can be set weekly to ensure one never loses focus or sight of their professional goals at any given point, even where challenges face them. In this manner, a person in networking, even while they face challenges are able to concentrate and stay motivated in their professional life while working on their personal life. Meditation at the end of each day will help a person recoup and gather their thoughts better and start a fresh the next day (Slack, 2015).
Utilization of Support Mechanisms
Many organizations identify the need for Human resource and other marketing techniques which simplify the manual work proposed for the Organization. Job Sites are such a technique. HR Departments have simplified their search for employees through the utilization of Job Sites which offer a wide network and range through which they can advertise and attain responses for their advertised positions.
Job Sites have become part of professional networks as they are a cheap and effective. Management is able to gather many responses and from them, determine the best person fit with the necessary qualifications. Job sites also reduce the amount of time which is required in attaining a response from employers or expected employees to be hired. They reduce the work of the HR department in professional search as they can filter out the results of respondents based on specific requirements as stated by the Organization. In this manner, they become part of a professional network as they aid in avital process which ultimately determines the kind of people to join the organization in the long run.
Internships acts as vital roles in the identification and experience of an individual in their chosen field of choice. An internship, of any length, gives a person a better understanding of the kind of roles and responsibilities that await them in their chosen line of work. They also provide the necessary knowledge and understanding of the functions of a given industry and its abilities. In this manner, a person, through an internship can better determine how best they fit in their chosen industry and what they wish to pursue (Shiflett, 2012).
Academic Associations are able to create the required academic network by their ability to network with people in Professional Organizations who can better assists the young people in school clubs and other academic groups better develop their talents, by exposing and advertising the talent that is in these groups. Faculty members are able to contribute to this network by welcoming and marketing their own institutions and students to other interested parties who better hold professional positions in companies of interest.
