The case study talks about a 17-year-old girl called Susan who is African American. Susan is interested in drafting and woodworking, which makes her attend morning classes and work in the afternoon. Susan feels that working is more interesting than being in class. Susan lives with both her parents. Susan’s father is a contractor while her mother is an administrator. However, Susan about confused with her situation She does not know what to do after high school graduation since she has no interest in joining college (Swanson & Fouad, 2015). Besides, Susan learned building trade through observing her father’s work. Also, Susan requested her father whether she could work with him, but Susan’s parents advised Susan that she was young; nonetheless, Susan’s father did not discourage Susan. Susan’s feather feels it’s the right work for Susan, but he is worried about Susan being harassed at the construction site. Ultimately, Susan is confused about what to do after high school.
The social psychological theory that is applicable in the case study is the cognitive-self theory of self-concept theory. The theory explains how people think about themselves, feel and behave. The concept in this theory is to define how different individuals believe and develop attitudes towards certain things that happen in their surroundings. In this article used for research on the social-psychological theory, it was found out that the following dimensions can be used to evaluate individual’s behavior. Interpersonal relationship, competence, satisfaction and risk acceptance work together in self-concept theory, which involves thinking, feeling and believing. In the case study, Susan who is 17 years old feels that she has no reason for attending college after graduation. Susan believes in herself to the extent that she attends only morning classes. In the afternoon, Susan does woodworking, which she enjoys than attending classes. Since Susan thinks that she can work at a construction site, Susan requests her father to allow her work, although Susan’s father is worried about Susan’s physical condition and maybe harassment by colleagues. In that context, the theory explains that Susan is a character who believes in herself.

The reason why some people behave in a given way is that they have developed feelings towards something. Susan, for instance, has developed feelings towards work, which is why she bothers her father to employ her at the construction site. She behaves in that manner because she feels she cannot continue with studies after high school graduation. Ethical Reasoning to the Case Study
Susan is 17 years of age, and she is in a dilemma of whether to continue with her studies after high school graduation. It is not right for her to avoid college to work at a construction site where she will be harassed by other workers. In many circumstances, ladies are rarely found at a construction site since they are considered weak genders. Despite Susan’s interest in woodwork and construction, it will be a poor decision to drop school and go to work. Besides, Susan has not reached the age of employment according to the U.S laws.

Susan is an average performer in class; besides, she can balance work and school. Therefore, Susan should complete high school and join a college, where she will pursue a course of her interest and work part-time. At high school, she can attend classes in the morning and work in the afternoon, which means it will be easier for her in college. Therefore, Susan should focus on her interests and expand her knowledge of construction and woodwork.
