The connection between society and unemployment is surprising. The two are influencing each other adversely. First, the job market is quite discriminative towards the youth, who are an essential and most substantial part of society. Youths are being discriminated from job opportunities on the basis of experience. Potential employers are almost always asking for unreasonable years of experience, yet the prospective employee has not even got the first job ( The United Nations, 2013) . The big question remains as “where would these youths get the experience if at all no one is willing to give them the first job?” Even after securing an opportunity, the security for the jobs is still very wanting as the policy of the ‘last in- first out’ applies to their disadvantage.
The situation is worse as it is gender-based with women and the girls in their youth lack the same competing field with their male counterparts. The societal issue of gender being implicit in the job market is a significant concern. Girls in their youth years are often falling into the trap of male bosses who manipulate them even by making sexual advances and harassing them in exchange for the jobs.

It is even more surprising to realize how unemployment has negatively affected social institutions, leading to the breaking of some. For instance, the youth is afraid to start family life until they get stable yet stability is being achieved at an advanced age. Sometimes, a young man shall secure a job with little pay but because he is the only employed person in a large family, he shall remit all the earnings to his family and might never get to start his family. Even when he does, he shall violate the social norm of independence and take his wild and child to his family so that he can attend to all of them at once. Families are also breaking because of unemployment.
The job market should be enhancing social institutions instead of breaking them. It should also be helping in providing solutions to some social issues like the gender agenda and not encouraging or practicing them.

The US is not exceptional to the issue of the unemployment of the youth. However, some parts of the world outside the US are worse and have more unfavorable employment opportunities for the youth. To improve the situation, specific measures must be taken. The first one could be a policy change in the education systems in these countries. Some of the states have incompetent education systems that do not produce professionals. These systems lack the professional content or are exam centered such that learners read to pass exams and not to gain the skills required. These faulty education systems have brought the citizens of these countries to a situation where they cannot even seek employment opportunities elsewhere when the opportunities in their countries diminish since they do not meet the academic qualifications.
Alternatively, the governments of these countries could encourage industrialization, innovation, and entrepreneurship by implementing support systems for the same. For instance, they may insist on local production to minimize importation and increase exportation. Such a move would provide opportunities to the youths as they get employed in the local industries. Innovation could be supported by investing in talents and skills. The government could provide platforms and favorable conditions where the youth could start earning from their talents and innovativeness. It could also have a system that encourages hands-on economic activities and ensures that the youth engage in them, securing employment. A favorable business environment characterized by harmless legislation and government policies could encourage entrepreneurship and attract the youth into self-employment.
