New York Presbyterian Hospital is a nonprofit university hospital. It is located in New York. The NYP system has a variety of outlying hospitals .These hospitals were previously affiliates of Presbyterian and NYH. Together with Weill Cornell Medical College, Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons and the NYH hospital run the New York-Presbyterian Healthcare system. This is a network of independent, acute care, cooperating and community hospitals, home-health agencies, continuum-of-care facilities and ambulatory sites. These two medical hospitals are autonomous. There is an increase in cooperation and coordination of clinical, residency training programs and research. The institution is made up of six main facilities: Allen Hospital, Weill Cornell Medical Centre, and Morgan Stanley Children’s hospital, Westchester Division, Columbia University Irving Medical Centre and Lower Manhattan Hospital. 

How the organization’s structure is mechanistic 

A mechanist organization is a company that is highly organized, bureaucratic structure. It is optimized for the formal procedure, slow response to change and constant business activities. There is usually very little collaboration among the departments and the responsibilities run from bottom to the top. New York Hospital does not have a mechanist structure this is because it comprises regional hospitals that have a close relationship.

How the organization’s structure is organic 

An organic organization is one that is flexible and has the ability to adapt well to changes. It has little job specialization, decentralized decision making, few layers of management and not much direct supervision. Organic structures have very few rules and procedures with duties, vague member responsibility and result to a low degree of formalization. The organic organization has known centralization and this means that the organization share in decision –making and power. New York Presbyterian hospital has an organic structure. 

How and why change the organization structure 

Some of the changes are important in realizing its mission of becoming and leading integrated academic healthcare expertise in the nation. These will be very important in the rapid growth and expansion of the hospital. I would also ensure that the quality of the hospital is high so that the patient can be taken care of. These changes may ensure that the environment that is increasingly dynamic.
