At the university, my experience with diversity was excellent because the institution admitted students from all races, religions, ethnicities, social backgrounds, and ages without discrimination. I witnessed the harmful effects of intolerance and discrimination when I was a student on campus. I remember there was a time a Muslim student was being tormented because the white kids believed he and his people belonged to extremist terrorist groups. According to Stein, Papadogiannis & Sitarenios (2009), emotional intelligence is essential for leadership success because it enables a leader to use their emotions in facilitating their thinking and understanding the sentiments of others. Leaders who have emotional intelligence can easily relate with others because they tend to place themselves in other people’s situations hence assist in choosing the best methods for solving a problem ( Murphy, 2018 ). Former President Barrack Obama is a leader who is a master in dealing with people. The main attributes he possesses are listening skills, critical thinking, and excellent decision-making skills. These qualities are what made him be one of the best presidents the nation has ever had. In our current society, jobs can be both traditional and participative or individualistic. It basically depends on the individual. Humphrey (2013) argues that some positions have individualistic traits in that they are designed to help one person instead of an entire team. The mode of interaction with other people will, therefore, not be as good as that of a person who does traditional participative jobs since their focus is on their personal welfare.
In my work experience, my personality has enabled me to make positive adjustments in accordance with my attitude, mindset, and relationship with co-workers. In my opinion, a person is more likely to accept a job that provides opportunities for value fulfillment. I am, therefore, individualistic in the sense that the post I choose is meant to fit my personal values and benefits. Delegation empowers team members and also serves as an essential part of sharing duties among individuals, thus ensuring good leadership ( Murphy, 2018 ). Herb Callahan exhibited good communication skills, excellent teambuilding capabilities, and innovative and problem-solving skills. One can assign work effectively by allocating tasks to subordinates in a way that gives room for them to flourish in their abilities and skills. My style of developing others first involves the establishment of trust and mutual respect. After this has been done, I assist them in facing challenges, making sound decisions, and solving problems. I am an elected leader when it comes to my approach to teaching. When attracting and keeping good people, it is always good to never allow anger to interfere with the decision-making process (Stein, Papadogiannis & Sitarenios, 2009). The thing one can do is develop healthy relations and ensure there is effective communication with other people.
