The study is intended to address the problem of homelessness in New York City. The study also outlines the factors that contribute to the problem of homelessness in NYC and policy options that decision-makers should consider in a bid to amicably address the problem. Homelessness in NYC has always been perceived as generational, and a significant percentage of nearly 70% of the homeless comprise of children and their families (Kende, March & Corden, 2017). In as much as homelessness has caused education disruptions and a variety of health issues in the street families, coming up with intervention programs such as the establishment of affordable housing and the improvement of the wellbeing of the street families makes the study a significant piece of research. The study is trying to prove the fact that homelessness in NYC is a phenomenon that has caused major economic and social problems in New York City. The study is intended to prove the fact that homelessness in NYC is mainly caused by the lack of affordable housing, job loss, domestic violence, and hazardous housing conditions. Homelessness in NYC is perceived to have reached the maximum level ever since the beginning of the great depression of the 1930s. The homeless families that find their way into the streets of New York City come from the poorest neighborhoods. The major factors that are believed to be a major cause of homelessness in NYC are inadequate of affordable housing, job loss, domestic violence, and hazardous housing conditions in the poorest neighborhoods (Herman, 2018). Additionally, persons in their middle adulthood and late adulthood, especially single individuals, come out as the homeless families in the Streets of NYC, and the major causes are psychological disorders, drug addiction, among other health problems. The fundamental policy concern is to prioritize the homeless children and their families through a modality of stabilizing rent policies in a bid to rescue the homeless from wallowing in the streets of NYC. Rent stabilization programs and policies should focus on the provision of affordable housing to the poorest families (Goodman, Messeri & O'Flaherty, 2016). The fact that domestic violence continues to be the major factor that causes homelessness in NYC, there is need for the city officials to come up with safe and sustainable alternatives and interventions programs that will enable the poor family keep their jobs and avoid disrupting their families based on depression and job loss. It is quite imperative to note that domestic violence, inadequate housing, job loss, drug addiction, mental illness, and poor housing conditions are the root causes of homelessness in NYC. Hence, the major strength arising from the previous works of researchers dwells on the fact that intervention programs such the identification of housing issues and the improvement of the physical and mental wellbeing of the street families have been put in place to address the problem of homelessness in NYC (Kende et la., 2017). However, it is quite essential to affirm the fact that raising awareness to the access to counsel for tenants who are on the verge of facing evictions from their homes comes out as significant gaps left in the previous literature. The need to improve the homeless families and the objective of prioritizing housing subsidies to meet the needs and expectations of the street families in NYC come out as quite helpful in supporting the purpose of the research. The policy research technique applied in the study is the need to prioritize the street children and their families through the establishment of rent stabilization policies in a bid to combat the phenomenon of homelessness in NYC. The findings of the research outline the fact that the major causes of homelessness in NYC are entirely based on domestic violence, mental illness, job loss, lack of adequate housing, and hazardous housing conditions (Johnson, 2018). Given the context of limitation in the policy analysis, it is evident that raising awareness by the city officials in a bid to enable the homeless families’ access counsel for tenants comes out as a serious challenge or rather a technical hitch. Targeting housing subsidies would prove quite essential to battling with the problem of homelessness in NYC. The use of available resources and the data of the homeless families in the streets of New York would play a significant role in the establishment of subsidy programs and the prioritization of the homeless families in a bid to enable them to keep their homes (Main, 2017)

Conclusion

The investment in the aftercare services, especially for the homeless families who have benefited from the subsidy programs, is helpful to avoid experiencing the phenomenon of homelessness (Goodman et al., 2016). The aftercare services focus on giving the victims the much needed social and moral support, and the improvement of the housing conditions in their new homes.
