The policy analysis is a process containing various alternatives. These alternatives are measured using the evaluation criteria to come up with the most suitable choice to go with when in need to attain an agreed goal or objective. There are various methods of identifying the alternatives policies as well as the disadvantage encountered in the process of determining the policy options ( Patton et al., 2015) . Most analysts develop a variety of options to have the best choice among many. This tactic helps in getting the alternative, which is politically acceptable and has the lowest cost than all listed choices. However, the most common error in generating a suitable option is experienced when the intended solution and the objectives are not transparent, or the analyst is prejudiced towards precise results ( Patton et al., 2015) . A good alternative has characteristics such as reliability, flexibility, communicability, and simplicity. Also, the choice is considered best if it is a low risk of failure.

There are various bases of alternatives. The analyst can derive these alternatives from prevailing policy suggestions. The existing proposals may be from benchmarking and by understanding how the policy might interfere with the current system. It is difficult to change an existing policy since it has already worked to the benefit of the people ( Patton et al., 2015) . However, the system might be changed slightly to meet the current economic changes ( Patton et al., 2015) . The second source of the alternatives is the generic source, which advises the analysts to borrow from an existing organization and seeking advice from policy experts. Another source is the modified generic solutions, where the alternatives are installed through regular training the concerned parties.

Potential alternatives can be searched through various methods such as literature reviews, surveys, and no action analysis, use of analogy and metaphor, and examinations of relevant solutions. After searching for the best solution, it is advisable to give a directive on the implementation of each of the listed alternatives ( Patton et al., 2015) . These searched options must be relevant and applicable to the current problems. Besides, the opted solutions are ideal if they can be useful in different geographical locations; they can be substituted, can be made bigger or smaller, and can vary according to their financial requirement ( Patton et al., 2015) . However, there is usually no guarantee that the analysts have recognized a reliable and applicable alternative, but their chances can be improved by following several guidelines ( Patton et al., 2015) . These guidelines include not relying much on past experiences, having a substantial objective by time, embracing every criticism occurring during the process, and finally, by being able to rule out options as circumstances change.
