The kind of child toy that I will make is the blocks toy. This is a type of child toy which has a set of unity blocks which allows the bay to tap two blocks together to produce noise. When accompanied by a song, the blocks can be tapped to produce a rhythm that the children can learn from as they grow. At some stage, the blocks can be used to make towers, which the children can knock down as they play. During this period, the blocks can be used to manufacture a variety of items through which they can learn the names and develop language skills. The blocks can have numbers, letters and even animals printed on it to help the child develop counting skills, letter recognition and naming of animals as well as colors. The paintings of animals, letters and numbers with different colors are used to help the child know the names of animals, pronouncing numbers and identifying colors. With the blocks unit, the child learns to understand preposition and encourages speech.

In developmental psychology, the critical period is a maturation stage in the lifespan of a child. At this time, the nervous system is very sensitive to the various stimuli in the environment ( Infant-Toddler Sensitive Periods, 2019 ). During this critical period, failing to receive an appropriate stimulus could make it difficult for the child to develop such stimuli later in life. Language is one of the stimuli that a child must learn during the critical period of failure to which it can be very difficult in the later life stage. The critical hypothesis period involves the first few years in the life of a child when language develops readily. According to neurologist Wilder Penfield, language is acquired during the critical period and any child who fails to develop language during this period can have difficulty to develop the proper language later in life ( Menyuk, Liebergott & Schultz, 2014 ).

At the same time, the environmental and biological factors play a key role in language development in the child during the critical period. The environment in which the child grows greatly influences the development of language skills. Infant-parent attachment is a crucial process in the social development of the child, and this affects how their language develops ( Wu & Gros-Louis, 2014 ). Children who grow with parental attachment are more likely to experience rapid language development during the critical period. Social environment can act as a hindrance to the language development in a child especially when there is a lack of example where children can learn an understanding of language. Biological factors such as cognitive ability and gender can affect language development in a child. Children with high cognitive abilities tend to have faster language development than those with low cognitive abilities.
