How to incorporate Psychology into the Law enforcement Field

Psychology can be utilized in the law enforcement field to make incredible transformations in favor of the community as well as personnel. Constructive growth and development can be experienced on the police sector as a result psychological skills, as well as knowledge, which are all incorporated to enhance and facilitate societal trends particularly between the law enforcement departments and the citizens. As a record, from the time psychology units in the law enforcement departments began to be recognized by most federal and state government, it was easier to improve community policing and obtain the type of information that would be very significant in ensuring peace and order (Canter & Zukauskiene, 2017). For instance, criminal cases can be spearheaded with the forensic psychologists who make comprehensive investigations to seek justice for the victims. The criminal perpetrators can be easily identified and arraigned to court for justice reasons. Therefore, psychological skills contribute in giving the law enforcement officers a proper framework for creating and establishing public trust 

The law enforcement departments have recognized and appreciated psychological skills and knowledge, which the present police forces have maximized in in their day-to-day duties. For instance, when psychological resources are implemented, they could be instrumental in enhancing or providing a framework for national policy issues. Through psychology, the police officers can interact very smoothly with the citizens to a point that they become significant during investigations of a crime or while addressing national issues that are affecting the people. The citizens can also easily report a matter or a disturbing person to the law enforcement authorities so that he can be attended to accordingly in an easy way (Canter & Zukauskiene, 2017). By acting that way, the law enforcement officers are seen as an extension of the society and they blend very well with the people. Consequently, the people and the society can cooperate with the police officers by giving them significant information that could help both the law enforcement department and the citizens. They can easily win the trust of the people so that the citizens can be open and free to cooperate with them. 

Community policing is an aspect in the law enforcement field that has aided in ensuring the welfare and safety of the society. The cases of criminal activities end up going down as well as the police can properly monitor the people in the community because they have members of the community as informants on any strange happenings (Canter & Zukauskiene, 2017). The community can take up some roles that complement the law enforcement field. Furthermore, the skills of psychology can help the society to always bank on the law enforcement authorities and trust them with the critical issues that are happening. 

Community policing is generally founded on creating and supervising effective problem-solving associations between the police department and society. As a result, this is intended to bring down the rates of criminal activities hence, supporting peace and order among members of a society. For instance, community policing is concentrated on encouraging behavioral changes, thus inculcating psychological aspects among the community members, particularly the ones that disturb the peace of the people (Canter & Zukauskiene, 2017). This is also instrumental currently because the police have the capacity to observe and determine bad behaviors founded on criminology. This, therefore, encourage constructive transformations among individuals. 

Through the psychological screenings, investigations can be done to the law enforcement personnel to determine whether they can discharge their duties accordingly. Psychology is also significant when offering to counsel to officers that are stressed because of their daily duties. A lot of challenging aspects and the duty to keep peace and order in a society characterize the law enforcement environment, which can be much stressful (Canter & Zukauskiene, 2017). Through psychology, stressed personnel are guided and encouraged to carry out their duties professionally, and are helped in overcoming such stressing conditions. The psychological skills are instrumental in determining the coping processes that could help the law enforcement officers to confront stressful conditions. 

Psychological skills and components are very critical in a law enforcement field. The police officers are always on the watch to identify the disturbing people in a society and enrolling them into a system that will help in their transformations. The law enforcement field should rely on accurate information on offenders so that the specific criminals are identified without mistaking them for anyone else (Canter & Zukauskiene, 2017). The society can be helpful in giving the police officers a clue to help in their investigations. The investigative arm of the law enforcement field can also trick someone into confessing the truth, which is helpful in the identification of more criminals that are disrupting the peace of the community. 

With psychology, a police officer can apply a wide range of psychological principles such as behavioral science techniques to law enforcement and safety of the society. Behavioral science techniques are significant when doing criminal investigations. The techniques can also be implemented when doing psychological autopsies to expose the thinking pattern of the victim, which is to establish what he could be thinking, sensing or doing before he died. The duties of a police officer also entail being engaged in hostage negotiations (Canter & Zukauskiene, 2017). That is, the police officer would competently engage with a criminal who has held people hostage not to threaten or cause more harm to innocent lives. Through tactful conversation that incorporates psychological skills, the criminal will be convinced to surrender. 

In conclusion, the place of psychology cannot be understated in the law enforcement field. The personnel in the law enforcement fields are able to help in locating of the specific criminals that are disrupting the peace and order of the community. Psychology will facilitate the engagement of the community members who may give the law enforcement leads into identifying the criminals. Through psychological skills, the police officers are able to help the recovering criminals in their transformations to be good citizens once released back to the society. Therefore, psychology will be fundamental in helping me perform my duties when I become a police officer as a police officer.
