Career decisions are critical and have the ability to change one’s life, there is therefore the need to make smart choices when it comes to making career moves, one bad decision can put a person in low level positions for the rest of their lives. Additional education and courses are important to secure promotions and make career advancement and often people are caught in dilemmas on whether to continue pursuing education or to settle for a job that is already available with the expertise and knowledge they already have, one is torn on whether to settle for a good job or sacrifice that job for a much better one in future which can be very stressful.
In this instance the problem is clearly whether to sacrifice a degree one has seriously invested time and money in and leave a job that one has security or to take a very good job in another town which one has already been assured off, this job will give me better pay, a car and money to relocate. It is the dream job I was studying to get and it has come even before I completed my education. I am therefore torn on whether to sacrifice all these years of working hard in school and final exam only two weeks away or take this job. I cannot pass up this job as I may never get such a good deal even if I complete my degree as such a supervisory position requires one to have a master’s degree and am only now obtaining my degree
Delegate your assignment to our experts and they will do the rest.
My current company is already reimbursing my education and I already have a secure job there, the new company will however not do the same and I will therefore have to fund my own education. The new company is therefore unchartered territory and will likely have more challenges which I am not aware of. This job will also force me to relocate, leave all my friends and family behind, all established social relations I already have. I do not adjust very quickly to new environments and often have challenges socializing and making friends the new town will therefore require a huge sacrifice on my part but on the flipside it offers a status and pay that I did not expect to get with my current qualifications. I have also prepared very well for my final exams and I was really excited as I am almost graduating, but with moving to a new town and a new job am afraid that I won’t be able to do my exams and therefore not graduate within the expected duration. I may end up not completing my degree which is problematic since am already very under qualified for the team and not completing my degree may lead to me getting as much respect in the new organization. I therefore need to decide whether to leave my current job for the new one and whether to complete my degree or not.
There are several possible solutions to this problem. I could defer the last semester so that I could do the final exams in the next semester so as to still complete my degree. I could also not respond immediately to the job offer and ask for some time to do my exams. I could keep my current job and just go to check the working conditions in the other company before making up my mind. I could turn down the job offer. I could cut my studies short and just take the job immediately. I could still do my exams while still at the other company I just need to ask for a few days off in advance as a term of employment
Deferring is a good idea as I do not have to start over which would be very hard and expensive. Starting all over again would mean that all the time I have invested in school would go down drain which is unacceptable. The second solution is very risky as is dependent on the company’s decision which could go both ways and I would end up in an even more complicated situation. The company probably want me to start work right away and might not be open to give me the time off as it seems that they want the position filled as soon as possible and if I would delay the job would clearly be offered to someone else. If I ask them for that it may start relations with the company on a bad note as they may think am not ambitious enough or dedicated or I simply like to complaint. The third solution is smart as am not keeping my eggs in one basket, I would not be closing the door on my current job or my degree, and am getting a chance to assess the conditions in the other company to see whether they suit my work ethic and my goals, whether its somewhere I would like to work and if not I could turn it down, continue working at my current company without any major losses. Turning down the job offer is utterly unacceptable, this is a chance of a lifetime that won’t probably come again even when I obtain my degree, even if it does come it probably won’t have such an attractive package as this one has, the pay may probably be lower and there may not be other advantages this position comes with, on the flipside however I have 11 years of experience and once I obtain my degree I will be very marketable since experience is everything in the job market and I may land a lucrative job. I cannot afford to cut my studies short not when am in the final lap, it’s simply not smart, the new job also requires me to continue with my education so that is out of the question. The final solution is a good one as I would take the job and just come for a few days to take the exam and then go back to work since I have a car this won’t be very difficult and since it’s the first days I probably won’t have a big work load and it will be possible to get away
The best alternative here is thereby to take the job and ask for a few days off to do the exam; this can be included in the terms of accepting the contract so that they are forewarned about the situation and to ensure no problems crop up. This will enable me to complete my degree and at the same time get the e job if my dream
I will thereby send the company my reply while stating the conditions of my employment, I will also not resign from the company am currently at until I hear back from them after which is will resign and move to the new company, if they do not accept my terms I will remain with my current employers. I will also continue studying for my final papers so that when the time comes I will be ready to just take the exam and continue working
From the above discussion I have been able to break down a problem that seemed quite complex when one read all that information at once, I have to admit it seemed a little intimidating and I did not think I could make a choice, so much information was whirling around in my head but when I put it down I was able to gain some clarity on the direction I was take. I was able to make priorities and decide on a course of action which did not seem likely at first. This systematic approach is therefore highly effective to tackle problems. Since once you realize what exactly you are dealing with the solution have a way of revealing themselves.
