During the PSY 101 class, I have pieced together various ideas and notions about my unobserved personal life. I can now understand life from a different perceptive since being acquainted with the realm of psychology. I have come to appreciate that there is a reason for everything and comprehended the differences in individuals’ mental and physical well-being, which the various topics in psychology can explain. One such topic was stress and health. The topic was able to present the multiple causes of stress and the effects on the health of individuals. The topic relates to my future carrier where I opt to become a psychiatrist to help people cope with stress, anxiety, and depression. As a psychiatrist, I will assess all of an individual’s physical and mental disruption. Stress and health have helped me identify the most effective psychological treatment and procedures, such as electroconvulsive therapy, essential for delivering efficient guidance and counseling to mental clients.
The topic also helped me understand why we operate the way we do and how different people react to change. Stress and health relied predominantly on affirmative actions essential in helping mentally ill persons cope with change in life. Change is a probable cause of stress and anxiety when the perceived change has significance for crucial issues to people’s sense of self, especially when the personal self is prominent (Homan & Sirois, 2017). Feelings of doubts or uncertainty facilitate the impact. Long-term exposure to stress disrupts the body processes and augments the risk of depression, heart disease, sleep problems, and memory and concertation impairment. The topic has helped me in avoiding incidences that can lead me to develop stress or depression. I am in a better position to help individuals who are battling stress, anxiety, or depression. It will also be essential in my psychiatrist career path.
