Disputes are normal and common occurrences in the workplace. Employees may at one time feel aggrieved by certain issues, and these will need to be resolved. The main dispute resolution processes include mediation where a neutral third party is introduced to help both parties reach an agreement and arbitration. In the latter, a neutral third party acts as a judge and responsible for solving the dispute and litigation where the matter is taken to a court of law to find a solution ( Grievance Procedures , 2017).
The CBA provided gives a grievance process outlining how grievances are to be addressed from the lowest level of employment to the highest. In my opinion, it is a very fair process as it gives all parties involved in the dispute a chance to be heard for the resolution of the grievances. It provides for the option to move to higher levels of management if the employee feels that his or her grievances are not being addressed adequately at the level, at which they occur ( Grievance Procedures , 2017).

Typically, grievances are common in any the working environment. However, not all of them require the attention of the top management and the immediate supervisor can solve some of them. The immediate supervisor can adequately address issues on workload and resource allocation within a certain unit ( Grievance Procedures , 2017). Serious issues such as salary increments, promotions, and transfers should be elevated to top-level management; the immediate supervisor can only provide recommendations.
The alternative dispute resolution process does provide for a very good course of action in the contemporary workplace. Parties involved should be willing to sit and listen to each other and be able to come to an amicable solution. It helps to save a lot of time and money that would have otherwise been spent ( Grievance Procedures , 2017).
