My stretch goal would be to open a sober house. I have been part of Sober Living Network, a Facebook group. Despite the fact that I postponed opening the sober house, I remained active in the group. Last week, someone posted that he was opening a sober house in California. I liked his post, and he gave me all the regulations that he is implementing in his sober house. Furthermore, I met an attorney and will be filing a motion for a court ordered therapy for the family because my ex-husband did not take him to therapy as promised. Sober living homes act as supportive transitional environments for people who are recovering from alcohol and drug addiction. Opening a home requires a commitment to offering consistent and compassionate support avenues for individuals with a vulnerable or fragile emotional and physical condition. It allows them to acquire coping skills and gain strength through a safe environment. Opening a sober living home requires established criteria, a business plan, filing system, and zoning laws that will ensure the success of the home. Moreover, the home should be managed under a strict set of regulations.
The most beneficial organizations to my professional career are the APA, NAADAC, MMHCA, and the ACA. I am a member of both NAADAC and APA. The ACA will be vital in updating me on the new bills and laws that were passed. The APA also offers timely information. NAADAC works with the NBCC and provides various certification courses such as SAP, NCAC I, NCACC II, NECODP, MAC and NCSE among other courses. I would like to be a member of the Mental Health Counselors Association (MMHCA) because it would allow me to interact with other practitioners in Michigan. The organizations are vital in enhancing the quality of life in the community by encouraging the development of professional counselors. Furthermore, they advance the profession so that it can promote the respect for human diversity and dignity. Professional counseling is a system that empowers diverse groups, individuals, and families to achieve career goals, mental health, wellness, and education. The organizations also assist when seeking accreditation. When any of the counseling programs undergo assessment, it is an indicator that the individuals and agencies have a mission and clear direction. The organizations are beneficial in the evaluation of limitations, counselors’ objectives, and strengths with the goal of enhancing their profession.
