Following the process of conducting the professional development inventory, I envisioned myself as a leader in the nursing environment. I recognized I have some of the most vital leadership and management qualities that I can exercise in my profession. However, I still needed to strengthen some of the skills, which will ultimately help me to seek out leadership and management opportunities in my nursing profession.
I have above-average communication skills that are critical in effective leadership and management. A good leader should have the ability to communicate with others in a variety of ways (Dickmann, Brewster, & Sparrow, 2016). Some of the communication skills that will help me in leadership include the ability to talk in groups, which could help me in building teams and influencing others to pool their efforts to work towards a common objective. I also can be brief and concise, which allows me to bring out ideas. Additionally, I have excellent listening skills that would play a key role when communicating with others. It would help me in leadership because I will give others a chance to express their ideas. Staying focused is also a critical communication skill that would help me to stand by the best stances when leading others. Such skills will complement my inadequate ability to remain assertive.

Furthermore, I have good observational skills that will help me to lead others, especially in teamwork (Marques, 2017). Such skills include my ability to note group tension and group interest level. I am also good at sensing feelings. These observational skills will help me in solving conflicts in teams while enabling me to work closely with others as I support them as a leader. Also, my skills in stimulating others will enhance my ability to influence others towards a common goal.
Conclusions and Reflections
My overall leadership characteristics are impressive and would help me in leading others. I can conduct direct interactions with others, which will help in working closely with them. My coaching skills will enable me to equip others with ideas that are important to achieve the set objectives. I possess the skill to give recognition, which will help me in motivating others as I lead them. Other management skills that I have include maintaining credibility, risk-taking, and time management that are essential for leaders. I believe that I can exercise these leadership skills in my nursing profession to lead others while inspiring them.
