Themes and trends in research question, methodology, and findings.

Previous trends and findings have indicated that situations involving lack of effective communication and misunderstanding among young adults and community library staffs have been on the rise in many societies across the world. As such, the young adults have not been able to utilize public and community libraries appropriately and efficiently. In this regard, the research question has attempted to make further finding concerning the causes of this growing communication gap (Cart, 2008).

Body

Overview of characteristics of the theme (commonalities and differences).

Various commonalities and differences have characterized previous finding in relation to the existing communication gap between young adults and library staffs. In this regard, some have indicated a common ground in terms of terms of the factors that have contributed to the increase in the gap whereas others have provided different factors contributing to the growing communication gap (Cart, 2008).

Sub-theme – narrow but grouped findings related to the theme.

Study 1 (Research questions, Methods/Participants, Related Findings).

In this study, the research question aimed at the establishment of some of the factors that have led to the considerable failure of the public community and institutional libraries in meeting the needs the needs and interests of young adults. The methods used involved a qualitative analysis and evaluation of the available information and literature that have been able to highlight several issues surrounding the subject of the existing communication gap. The findings in this study have been able to demonstrate that generation gap between the young adults and most library staff members as well as technological changes in the field of education are some of the factors that have significantly contributed to the growth of this communication gap (Bishop and Bauer, 2002).

Conclusion: A critique of the existing literature.

This literature makes important contribution to this field in the sense that it provides information regarding the progress and achievements that have so far been made concerning investigations on this overall topic. In addition, this existing literature presents the relevant information about the history of Young Adult (YA) services in community public libraries from 2005-2017, which forms the basis upon which new studies and research can be conducted to find a comparison. The overall strength of this literature involves its ability to present findings and outcomes that are relevant and useful in terms of finding adequate answers to the research questions in this field (Bernier, 2003).

On the other hand, its overall weakness is associated with its failure to provide statistics and figures in relation to the previous findings on the existing communication gap. Some of the things that might be missing include information about alternative ways of addressing the communication gap between the young adults and the community library management. The next step for research should involve focusing on questions that aims at finding figures and facts to describe the existing situation as well as finding alternative solutions that will assist in narrowing or closing the existing communication gap (Jenkins, 2000).
