A lot of research has been done concerning mental illness. I found it a challenge justifying that my study will add new knowledge to the already existing knowledge. It is also hard to measure stigma, and one would question how the research will point to the stigmatized mentally-ill adolescents and those who are not stigmatized. This is one of the challenges that the study will have in coming up with valid and reliable conclusions. The issue of mental illness has been addressed from the perspective of its causes, such as drug abuse, specifically marijuana. Justifying that the study on the effects of stigmatization on medical health-seeking was a little hard as some may find it not interesting at all. A change is always hard, but if people start exploring other sides of mental illnesses, it will help those who are affected.
The project justification is a critical part of planning for my project. Firstly, it will guide me when doing my study to stick to the study’s purpose in order to get the correct information, save time and resources that could have been spent looking for irrelevant information. Secondly, it will attract the attention of my audience. My research justification shows why understanding the relationship between stigma received by the mentally-ill adolescents in Jamaica and the medical health-seeking is important. Mentally-ill patients get discriminated against and stigmatized, which leads to increased suicidal rates (Meyer et al., 2018). It is thus important to understand how the stigmatization affects help-seeking and where the adolescents seek help in order to equip such platforms and avail them to the adolescents to reduce suicidal rates. It also makes the audience know more about my project by arousing curiosity in them. It also states the targeted audience and is an exposition of my project.

I am interested in this area because I was mentally ill when I was an adolescent. Living in a society where the mentally ill are treated as outcasts was not easy. Seeking medical help was a challenge due to the fear of judgment. This study will help the stigmatized mentally-ill adolescents to have access to help in the platforms they are most comfortable with.
