What was your favorite discussion and favorite assignment, and why?
Week 2’s ‘Theory and Developmentally Appropriate Practice’ was my favorite discussion, with ‘Child Development Observation’ being my favorite assignment. This is due to the fact that I was able to gain information through examples of the benefits of employing developmental theory and research. The discussion tremendously aided me in comprehending the significance of factors in child development and theory, as well as implementing this vast depth of knowledge of developmental phases to promote developmentally appropriate practices. The assignment required me to use the observation technique to characterize the phases and deliverables of child development in the physiological, interpersonal, psychological, intellectual, and speech domains, which was enjoyable because I was eligible to recognize various strategies to assist a child’s physiological, social and economic, and intellectual growth.
What did you learn in this course that surprised or inspired you?
The most surprising thing I learned in this course was how children are not merely passive onlookers who capture the outward appearance of events from a young age. Instead, they are constructing interpretative frameworks to arrange their understanding. It is fascinating how infants may instinctively perceive other people’s acts as being influenced by wants, objectives, sentiments, ambitions, concepts, and other cognitive processes, and how children’s growing metacognition changes how they engage with people and what they acquire from them. Infants and toddlers are starting to comprehend what goes on in other people’s heads as well as how others’ sentiments and perceptions are virtually indistinguishable from their own.

What will you take from this course that you will use in your current and/or future profession?
In my career path, I will use the key social-emotional qualities I developed in this course to champion early childhood development facilities and programs. I will also employ my relationship-building abilities to do so. With my understanding of developmental stages, I will be equipped to understand how to work with various age classes and how to effectively assist them in a variety of settings.
