Labor unions are essential tools for strengthening the bargaining power of employees in an organization. The unions would offer better deals if the negotiation process were approached and executed with a credible methodology. The human resource manager prepares for negotiations by collecting enough information about the subjects being negotiated. Labor representatives prepare for negotiations by researching the needs of the workers and the employer. Credible preparation of negotiations leads to easy identification of solutions to the various needs of the employees, employer, and the union.
How to Prepare for the Negotiations as a Human Resource Manager
Negotiations with the union representatives should be approached with a high level of preparedness. As a human resource manager, i would prepare for the negotiations using a four-step method. The steps would follow in preparation for the negotiations include; confirming negotiation situation, clarify the objectives of the negotiation, gather enough information, and preparing mentally. Confirming the negotiation situation entails clarifying whether the negotiation process could be of any benefit (Kagan, 2019, p. 2). The next step in my preparation is the confirmation of the targeted goals of the negotiation. During this stage, i would identify the desired outcomes of the negotiations depending on the grievances of the employees. i would then research enough information regarding the needs of the employees and the types of leverages that unions can offer. The last step in my preparation is to align my mental orientation with the negotiations.

Type of Information That Is Important In the Negotiations
One of the important information to have in the negotiations is the updated salary and wage figures for all levels of workers. Besides, I should also have updated information on the medical cover offered by the employer and other benefits. The negotiations also require that I have a well-outlined job description for all levels of employees in my organization (Wolff, 2020, p. 3). Besides, I should have an updated retirement scheme that is offered by the organization.
The Bargaining Priorities and Strategies That I Would Use In the Negotiations
One of the bargaining priorities I would have in the negotiations is proper remuneration for all employees according to the various job classification. The approach I would use in presenting the priority is the cause/reason approach. This approach bases the argument with a supportive reason (Budd, 2010, p. 196). The supporting reason for prioritizing proper remuneration is to conform to the standards of each job group. i would also prioritize the bargain for proper medical cover. The reason that i would use to support the argument will feature the various dangers and health risks associated with work.
How the Preparations Would Change If I Were a Union Representative
If I were a union representative, my preparation would commence with research on the possible demands of the employees. The preparation would then research on the ability of the employer to conform to the prospected demands by the employees. i would also prepare by formulating certain offers that are likely to harmonize the two involved parties. My preparation would end a research on the expectation of the employees and the employer and the possibility of meeting the expectations.
