In his article, Joseph Giacomin (2014) discusses the major components of human centered designs. The author offers several reflections of the meaning of the word “design” and explains the paradigm in the definition of human centered design. However, a critique of the article may provide more insights and variations in the meaning of the framework proposed by the author. That critique forms the basis of this paper.
Giacomin begins by defining the word “design” and proposes various definitions. However, offering the different basic meanings of the word does not provide the required meaning in the context of the article. The article should consider the meaning of the word from a human perspective. As he rightly states, design can be interpreted differently, and what he ought to do is offer his definition. The author then identifies three main types of designs that include technology driven design, sustainable design and human design ( Giacomin 2014 )

Critical Examination of the Article
The article highlights how human centered designs aim at fulfilling or addressing the needs of the users and their tools. The author proposes that a human centered design paradigm must be founded on human behaviours and meanings (Giacomin 2014) . The structural model should consist of a series of questions and answers that comprises of physical nature of how people interact with products, systems and services to the metaphysical. However, such an approach lacks the ability to consider a human centered design as subject to changes in the systems as a result of innovations. While having a series of questions and answers is essential, the questions and answers must consider how human interact with technology and not just the social aspect as proposed by Richard Harte and others in their study (2017). The use of innovative technology in designing human centered solutions must consider the convenience of their end users. Therefore, having a structured and iterative human centered design approach as proposed by Giacomin may result to conflict with the necessary and rapid product development life cycles linked to some industries like healthcare. The case for the benefits derived from human centered design in business strategies is essential (Na et al. 2017) . While the author makes a distinction between features of human centered design business strategy.
