The entire Metropolitan area is about to be hit by a hurricane estimated to be of Category 4 storm. The forecast is not sure whether the storm may exceed the estimated strength or be below category 4 storm. It is expected that the land would be affected up to 10 miles off the coast thus the need for the first evacuation. If Hurricane, Hana strengthens, it would consist of category 5 and would probably destroy several homes with much damage being experienced in the mobile homes and lower floors of the various building within the radius 500 yards from the shoreline. The best way to save lives is to evacuate people up to 10 miles as ordered by the governor. The storm would cause damage up to 18 miles leaving thousands of people homeless. Without first evacuation, many people would be killed and others trapped either in the building or by the flood waters. Millions of power will be in the darkness due to lack of power and lots of property lost. Moreover, extreme traffic jams would be experienced within the city, and it would not be easy to contain the situation without consolidated support from the police and other emergency service operations. The topmost need would be the provision of food and shelter for the displaced. The community would have to prepare for the disaster by evacuating the entire perimeter that is likely to be affected and moving to safer areas for temporary accommodation until the situation gets back to normal. Those who are traumatized by the hurricane would be given psychological advice by a specialist in the team. The primary focus would be to ensure that all the members of the community rebuild and get back to their healthy lives (Shultz & Galea, 2017). Hurricane is bound to happen since they are part of the natural disasters in the environment. The best that can ever be done is to put mitigating measures that would help to prevent the impact of the occurrence of hurricanes among the general population. This proposal would help to reduce the impact of the storm in terms of lives and property lost. The community would have to prepare in advance for any future occurrence of the hurricane. One of the measures put in place is the construction of a high and robust seawall that separates the shoreline from the areas of residence. This wall would prevent the storm from reaching the areas of the home and destroying property. Now that everything would be contained, the eviction process would only cover small areas, and this would be a significant advantage to the community. Moreover, most of the members of the community would be encouraged to look for areas of residence in the highlands and parts that are a bit far from the shorelines. The coastal regions would be left majorly for recreational activities. This would make it easy to prevent loss of lives since the people evicted in case of hurricanes would be few unlike in situations where the buildings are predominantly residential. Finally, the government would have to provide an alternative power source that can be used in emergency situations thus allowing secure communications and survival in times of storm. It should be noted that lack of power hinders much of the rescue mission primarily due to a lack of communication means and darkness at night (Gatzlaff et al., 2015). In conclusion, natural disasters such as hurricanes require a lot of preparedness in order to reduce their negative impact. The government plays a vital role in ensuring the effectiveness of the storm is diminished. The most significant strength of the rescue team is the fact that it comprises professionals from nearly all fields thus making it easy to handle the challenges that come in the aftermath of the storm. The most exceptional weakness comes with finances as they are dependent on aid from the government and other well-wishers. The next step to consider is how to prevent ocean water from breaking into the land during hurricanes. The short-term goals would include successful settlement of the victims and relocations to safer areas. Other goals would consist of the construction of a seawall that prevents ocean waters from reaching the land, having enough generators to lit the community in times of storm, and keeping enough food and bedding for the sake of emergency situations.
