Identity politics has been defined as one’s political positions, which are based on the interests of the social groups that they identify with, including but not limited to their race, sexual orientation, language, religion, sex, profession, generation and social class. The term homosexual and heterosexual were relatively unknown up until the late nineteenth century (Katz, 2008, 36). Heterosexuality is assumed to have a history dating back to the period of Adam and Eve. Even though, the whole idea of heterosexuality was coined during the late nineteenth century, just like the idea of homosexuality. Heterosexuality is one of the ways through which the sexual relations of the two sexes were and still are categorized and perceived. Until the late nineteenth century, the desire for a family was for purposes of procreationand not for the attainment of other sexual desires and pleasures. In the late nineteenth century, the human bodies now became consumers of pleasure as opposed just to production. The people who were able to get pleasure members of the opposite sex were now known as heterosexuals, and those whose mental states were such that could only attain this pleasure from members ofthe same sex and deviated from the formerly cast gender norms were referred to as homosexuals (Katz, 2008, 38).
People became pegged to their ethnic groups by various ways. Black people were categorized as such from the consolidation of racial slavery in the United States (Omi &Winant, 2008, 51). Africans were classified as black through the racial logic. The working classes were classified as “white.” Other people were grouped to their ethnicities by their skin color appearance. To date, the “white working class” assumption is still being made even with the socio-economicprogress that’s been made within the US thus far. According to Bulman, There has been a “re-emergence of class analysis following the Brexit vote and Donald Trump’s election in the US, and tis has focused principally on the white working class and their cultural or social exclusion.” (Bulman, 2017). Politicians are using the white working class idea to justify some of their decisions instead of addressing issues that affect people from all ethnic groups. For example, Donald Trump used racial fears to deliberately get the white working class vote in the just concluded elections, when he instead, should have engaged in issue based politics as only by so doing would he have been able to address the problems faced by the general American populace.

Distinctions in terms of sexuality and ethnicity are very important to Americans as they help the people understand the significance of their attributes in relation to their racial/ethnic background and as well, to their sexual orientation. The United States can be said to be a mixed culture country because it is home to many ethnicities and cultures with each bringing its own influence. It additionally also accommodates people with different sexual orientations. Their culture is comprised of various other cultures that have come together and co exists as such.
