Immigration through the 19th Century

Some of the questions raised concern the issues of racial discrimination, the possibility of overpopulation and allocation of employment and settlement opportunities for the different groups of people. The American government has always faced the challenge of properly managing immigrants against maintaining their contribution to the economic growth of the nation. Clearly, early questions about citizenship and immigration policy contribute to n the stagnation of social and political growth in various ways. These ways include the increase of crime rates and prostitution in the nation. Moreover, increase in population against limited opportunities and the feelings of racial discrimination in the process of allocating employment opportunities between minority and majority populations are among the contributing issues to slow political and social growth of America during this time.

Among the reasons for instituting some of the programs was to ensure proper and fair discrimination processes in ensuring a proper national administration. Lack of these programs would lead to chaos with overpopulation and economic disasters in the nation. It was important to institute these for the purpose of order and economic prosperity of the nation. The immigration bodies under the government had the opportunity to control the situation in a manner that would benefit governance and maximize benefits for the nation and its citizen contribution. 

Immigration is always willing to be lenient with the policies at some points in time in order to bring in beneficial skills in the nation. The American government will, when in need of labor, try to bring in suitable skills into the country by offering individuals or families working opportunities in its nation. It is however, contradictory seeing as the nation has in the past developed unrealistic policies against immigration. The Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882 encouraged the nation to discriminate against Chinese immigrants. The Ellis Island immigration program also encouraged naturalization of only white male individuals after two years of living in the United States. Evidently, such a program is racially discriminatory and thus contradicting.
