Human activities such as industrial emissions and burning of fossil fuels contribute to climate change and hence global warming through the release of greenhouse gasses and aerosols into the atmosphere. Gaseous compounds released to the atmosphere alter how solar radiates the earth and therefore change how the climate system cools or warms.
Global warming negatively affects the environment. For instance, oceans absorb the heat that is retained in the atmosphere which makes them expand and become more acidic due to absorption of more carbon (IV) oxide. Oceans, therefore, get higher sea levels that tend to cover coral reefs and the acidic water dissolves the shells of sea animals (Warne & Kennedy, 2015). Another effect is that the ice on mountain peaks, glaciers, and freshwater ice are melting rapidly. The main environmental issue that the region I grew up in is more likely to face is the possibility of the natural habitat of sea animals becoming unbearable to them.

Most people are unaware of the causes and possible repercussions of global warming. To help with this, I could start a movement around my home region whose aim is to sensitize people on these matters (Korgen & Furst, 2012). The movement could then advocate for reduced emission of greenhouse gasses by industries.
Role of Race and Class in Hurricane Katrina
Analysis of the response to natural disasters by the government after Hurricane Katrina revealed that the government was likely to respond more promptly to disasters if most of the people affected by it were white. This was after images showed that all those that were left behind to face the wrath of the hurricane were black (Bouie, n.d.). However, families that could afford resources and move themselves to safer grounds in which they could be easily evacuated suffered less (National Public Radio, 2005). This made the situation seem more like a class issue. Kristen Lavelle states that Hurricane Katrina disaster looked like a race and class issue because it was. The people of New Orleans were left to suffer physically and emotionally as the world watched.
