Studies have previously demonstrated that a strong relationship exists between common parenting practices and both the concepts of individualism and collectivism (Zaharna, 2015) . Whenever people in society decide to adopt a situation characterized by more individualism and less of collectivism, it becomes difficult to maintain desirable parenting and educational practices. 

Definition of Individualism 

Individualism entails a principle that people are expected to take care of themselves and be self-reliant because everyone is unique (Kim, 2019). The concept of individualism is aligned with a social theory that supports people's freedom of action over collective control.

Definition of Collectivism 

This section explains the meaning and description of collectivism. The concept of collectivism involves a theory that advocates for collective responsibility and control over various aspects of life (Sahin, 2017). More emphasis and focus is placed on collective identity and action rather than individualism.

Differences between Individualism and Collectivism for Parenting Practices 

Individualism largely focuses on using individual rights in the attainment of individual goals through parenting practices. On the other hand, the focus of collectivism involves group achievements amidst relationships involving different personalities (Alshahrani, 2017). The motivation behind individualism includes personal benefits and rewards, while collectivism is primarily inspired by collective achievements. Collectivism places more emphasis on the attainment of long-term forms of relationships. Unlike individualism, collectivism inspires parenting practices to find their basis on recognition and appreciation of group success. 

Similarities between Individualism and Collectivism for Parenting Practices 

Both individualism and collectivism are theoretical principles and guidelines that provide frameworks for people in society, including parenting styles and practices. These two concepts play a critical role in influencing social interactions among people of unique and different personalities (Zaharna, 2015). These two theoretical concepts are keen on embracing the fact that the beliefs and actions of people are influenced mainly by their uniqueness and alienable rights. 

Individualistic values and parenting styles 

Key individualistic values that are relevant to parenting styles include focusing on unique personal interests instead of group or collective ambitions. Individualistic values would inspire parents to embrace styles that are keen on promoting the independence of thought and actions. Other important individualistic values include self-realization and self-reliance, among other interests. Amongst, authoritative, authoritarian, uninvolved, permissive, and authoritative which are regarded as common parenting styles. Controlling and strict aspects are attributable to the authoritarian style of parenting (Bakiera, 2019). 

Collectivistic values and parenting styles 

Collectivist values have a way of inspiring and influencing key parenting styles. Some of these values include integrity, honor, national security, and social order among others. Collectivistic values are aligned to a culture that places more emphasis on the goals and needs of groups of people ( Zaharna, 2015). Through these values, parenting styles are capable of developing and nurturing relationships with different personalities within a group. 

Implications of Individualism and Collectivism for Parenting 

The concept of parenting is largely influenced by Individualism and Collectivism theoretical frameworks. Individualistic and collectivistic values are largely theorized in light of their implications on organizations, teamwork, and parenting, among others. Individualistic cultures for parenting inspire parents to prioritize the pursuit of individual attainments and independence ( Jamir, 2019). The implications for collectivism on parenting are capable of influencing parents to place more emphasis on group achievements. 

Conclusion 

Through individualism, parenting styles to inspire children to take care of themselves and be self-reliant because everyone is unique. Collectivism influences parenting to help in advocating for collective responsibility and control over various aspects of life. Collectivism influences parenting styles through involvement and consideration of group achievements amidst relationships involving different personalities. Collectivistic values in parenting are aligned to a culture that tends to put more focus on the attainment of group goals and objectives.
