For any team to perform excellently there needs to be clear communication between the coach and the players. The best time to communicate with team regarding the plans is when the season is beginning. The most appropriate place is during a boardroom meeting, upon which the coach is supposed to communicate the team goals and philosophies of coaching. The communication needs to be consistent and honest, and ensure all players have understood what will be needed from each of them. In that sense, elements of effective communication will be needed, and being positive. Numerous ways can equally be used to ensure that communication skills as the coach are improved.
Elements of Effective Communication
The elements of effective communication that I will use while communicating the plan for the season will matter whether the message will reach home. Firstly, I will be very clear on the goals and plans and request my players to feel free to seek clarification (Mahoe). Communication will be done in a common language that all players will understand, and understand instantly. The plans and team goals for the season will be presented in a concise manner (Mahoe). The schedules, practices, and games ahead will be communicated correctly, to avoid any form of confusion. During the meeting, I will share complete information I want the players to know, as this will be critical in ensuring the success of the team is guaranteed. All the technical information will be communicated appropriately, to ensure the perfect game plan is mastered by all the players. I will be courteous, to avoid any conflicts or intimidation (Mahoe). By so doing, the athletes will own the athletic program for the season, and as such, the same will be reflected in the field by displaying peak performances, and maximize the possibilities of a successful season. Another element of communication that I will employ is being constructive. In this regard, I will avoid offensive language that will only breed negativity. Avoiding criticism will enable players to open up, and as such positive relationship will be developed, and chances of having a successful season will be guaranteed.

Being Positive; Message to Hear and Think About
I will remain positive by avoiding profanity and being a good example to my players. I will make it clear that I am available to all athletes, in case they need to discuss any issue. I will offer them communication opportunities in terms of emails, social media, tests, chats and phone conversations.
I would like the athletes to hear and understand that, the plan for the season is to finish top three. I would like them to think about the goals the team needs to achieve, and remind them that at every training session, I will remind them about it. As such, they will remain focused towards achieving the goals. I will be very keen to offer positive reinforcement, and shun criticism. I will praise the athletes for their effort they have displayed in the previous seasons; prior to mentioning the ways I want them to use in order to improve performance in the new season.
Improving Communication Skills
To improve communication between me the coach and athletes, I will ensure that I have engaged them, invite their opinions, questions, and seek their feedback. For instance, the athletes might need to increase the time for conducting practice, in order to display peak performances throughout the season. In such a situation, I will seek their opinions regarding the same, and respond appropriately. Taking tome to respond is a way of improving communication, as it demonstrates I have listened and I am ready to respond.
Maintaining eye contact and respecting the athletes is also another way I will improve my skills of communication. While communicating the plan for the season, I will maintain direct eye contact to display credibility and demonstrate to the athletes that I care about them. Respect will come in handy, by demonstrating to the athletes that the plans are not about me, but about the success of the team and each player.
