Personality traits are instrumental in determining the character of an individual. In addition, personality traits also influence the perspectives of individuals as well as their attitudes towards things, such as work place. The following paper is a personality analysis of two co-workers in the company, reviewing their character traits as well as their attitude towards work.

Description of Personalities

Description of First Co-Worker

The name of my first co-worker is James. James is a 29 year old family man, with two kids, Mitchell and Moet. He loves his family very much and likes to talk about them whenever he has an opportunity. James is a cheerful man full of life. As such, I would describe his personality as being extraversion, agreeableness, and conscientiousness. James is extraversion in the sense that he is excitable, sociable, talkative, assertive, as well as exuding a considerable level of emotional expressiveness. For instance, James is very outgoing and usually takes the leading position when the company goes out for gathering and seminars, such as moderating the meetings, thereby expressing his high level of extroversion.

James personality can also be termed as agreeableness, characterized by attributes such as altruism, kindness, trust, affection as well as other prosocial behaviors. In this regard, we can term James as having a high level of agreeableness, whereby he is very cooperative in the company. In fact, James likes working in groups or performing tasks in team work, showing just how agreeable he is. James can also be termed as being conscientiousness, whereby he exudes a high level of thoughtfulness and good control of impulses, as well as goal directed behaviors. For instance, James is usually very focused with his team or group and always wants the team to achieve its set goals and objectives.

Description of Second Co-Worker

The name of my second co-worker is Jane. Jane is a 52 years old spinster. She has never been married, and does not have any children. She did not even bother to adopt a child. She lives alone in her house with kids. She does not have any known relatives as her home town is far off. She is always grumpy and likes to keep to herself. As such, I would describe her personality traits as being neuroticism and lack of openness. Jane’s personality trait can be termed as neuroticism because of her high level of moodiness, sadness, as well as emotional instability. For instance, Jane usually exudes high levels of mood swings, irritability, moodiness, anxiety and sadness. On the other hand, Jane can also be described as lacking of openness, whereby she has a lower constraint of openness in the sense that she is more traditional and usually struggles with abstract thinking. For instance, Jane is always taking on the young secretaries at the office for their choice of fashion dressing whereby they expose so much flesh, unlike her who covers herself from head to toes.

Workplace Attitudes

I am positive that the personality traits of my co-workers play a critical role in determining their attitudes towards employments, especially in relation to organizational commitment and job satisfaction. As for the case of James, it is clear that he is an outgoing guy, and as such, he has a positive attitude towards employment. He is satisfied of his position at the job and as such, committed to delivering on his duties and responsibilities. On the other hand, Jane is a grumpy old woman who only works because she has to survive. Given a choice, Jane would never report to work again. She therefore has a negative attitude towards work, characterized by lack of job satisfaction and low commitment to work. As such, she has been in the same position of clerk for 30 years since her employment at age 22. I think their personality traits played a significant role in determining their workplace attitude, as opposed to other external factors such as job characteristics.
