The Individual Education Plan (IEP) is important in the current educational setting. The Ministry developed the Plan to guide educators and other stakeholders on ways to comply with requirements related to their work. The first phase of the Plan revolves around gathering information. At this stage, the users of the Plan need to focus on collecting information from various sources. Furthermore, it is imperative to consult with the parents, students, teachers, and other education professionals before moving to the next stage. The data that may be required include personal information, IPRC details student performance, placement decisions, and characteristics of the special education programs. The information can be obtained through observation, consultation with professionals, assessments, and consolidation of the available details that had been recorded down. Once the details have been obtained, it is possible to take the next course of action. Phase one is important since any mistake made at this stage will affect all the other activities undertaken in the subsequent stages. If the data collected is accurate and appropriate, it is possible to tailor the rest of the processes correctly. Therefore, educators should strive to get it right in phase one of the IEP to ensure that the objectives of all the other stages are realized.
