Information management is collecting and guiding the use of data or information from various sources and disseminating this data to various recipients or audiences. Information may be physical or electronic. Patient care technology uses computers and electronic monitoring devices to provide effective health care to patients. Other mechanical devices, such as catheters and syringes, are also considered part of patient care technology (Stanfil & Marc, 2019).

It is crucial that the nurses are well acquainted with the knowledge about information management and patient care technology. This is because patient care technology reduces the cost and time spent constantly monitoring individual patients. This is through providing systems that provide the nurses with critical information about the patients regardless of their physical location. Elements of importance to a patient's health, such as vital signs, can be measured, recorded, and tracked and a course of patient care provided in an automated manner. Patient data is also managed ethically, and healthcare practice decisions are also informed by research (Mazar & Patel, 2015). Knowledge of how to manage information and apply patient care technology helps nurses with effective communication and the provision of effective and safe patient care. Communication between healthcare professionals is enhanced, and standardized data is automatically generated to continuously evaluate and improve healthcare practice.

During the BSN program, I managed to apply the use of patient care technology in various ways. The patient monitoring systems, such as the ventilator heart monitor and medicine pump, were automated and computerized. This facilitated ease in patient monitoring and prompt response to changes in the patient's condition. During the program, I made several web searches for learning and improving the patient's quality of care. Orders were made via electronic means. This means as nurses, we ordered medication for patients via automated means based on the patients' prescription. It was also possible to review the recommendations of the doctors for patients via computers.
