Cognitive factors that determine human development are vital to human development since they affect the growth ability in terms of the development of the brain. Cognitive factors such as reasoning, language development and memory are responsible for enabling an individual form complex ideas and understand the world by being able to interact with other factors. One of the cognitive factors of human development that should be acquired from childhood is that of object permanence. Object permanence is the ability of a child to notice that there are obstacles between them and an object they were playing around with. Normally, when a block is placed between a child and a toy which they were playing with, the child should be able to notice for them to be regarded as children with the cognitive ability of object permanence. This is also critical in estimating their concentration levels as they grow.
Categorization is an ability in children that also affects their growth. This is because categorization moves from the ability to organize simple objects to making critical decisions based on certain priorities. An infant, for example, is expected to be able to classify objects as they appear while being able to group them according to their differences. More so, categorization is an ability that every child should be able to carry on as they grow since their life as a teenager and an adult will be faced by the need to make choices, most of which are based on categorization. If a child grows knowing how to group things according to their color and sizes, they should advance to being able to classify them according to their order of importance, and later, apply the same to their life decisions.

Autism is one of the conditions that may affect a child’s ability to develop their categorization ability. This is because it affects the patterns of interaction and communication in children. Minimal cognitive abilities may therefore be associated with autism since it inhibits a child’s ability to focus on one issue for a long time. For example, a child may not have the ability to concentrate for a long time on items they are supposed to put in a certain class and this is something that may affect them in the long term. Inheriting a weak X syndrome may be one of the causes of autism since it inhibits the intellectual ability of a child.
