An interdisciplinary study of military and business will enhance my professional standing by showcasing a desire to learn two totally unrelated subjects and trying to intertwine the two to make a strong business lady. My experience in the military has taught me that I should never stop learning. I have a firm believe that no single subject can make me a lucky woman. A variety of knowledge from different areas makes an all rounded person that can cope with any situation irrespective of the circumstances. Experience in the military even though not related to business will be an added advantage to me as I try to chart a future career path in commerce. A sales lady aspiring to be a business owner needs to be tough to overcome challenges that might hamper the achievement of this goal. It is in this instance that I see my military knowledge complementing my business study to support my aspiration to be a wealthy business lady ( Dave, 2011; Maule, 2011)

My chosen area of study which will be incorporated in this paper is Business with a bias towards sales management and eventually venture into operating my firm. Working in the military has helped me gain the courage and confidence to face any situation in life. As the Bible in 1 Peter 4:10, say every one of us should use the gifts we have to serve others as faithful servants of God’s grace in different forms. I think that my desire in business and in particular starting my enterprise will be a service to others first. My desire is driven by serving the community and in return getting monetary return later ( Dave, 2011) . .

An interest in sales is all about identifying the needs of customers and offering solutions that meet the desired needs. It is all about a passion for serving people by offering need fulfilling products. Engaging in business is a challenge, but this is not going to stop me from achieving my goal. I believe that I will be a robust and courageous lady who will develop a reputable business that operates according to as Joshua says. He continues to encourage by saying that we should not be discouraged for the Lord God will be with me wherever I go ( Kotler, et al, 2012).

Another verse that has had an impact on me came from Mark when Jesus said that we do not need to be afraid and all we need is to believe. This is one verse that motivates me to start my own business and compete with everyone else irrespective of their gender, financial status or experience. It encourages me to believe in myself and to pursue my interest. Such confidence is what drives me to be an aspiring business lady with an inclination towards sales ( Kotler, et al, 2012).

From my early age, I have been dreaming of working in a large organization that offers essential products that improve the well-being of the society. I have been visualizing being in a position where I can affect the decision made in the organization. Sales has been my preferred starting point into a wider commercial environment where I will gain exposure to the real world of business and be able to deal with emerging challenges. Experience in sales and a natural enthusiasm to take risk will be the perfect ingredient to starting my own business ( Kotler, et al, 2012). .

My expertise in the military has motivated me to enroll in a business course after realizing that there are few areas for growth and expansion. Working with the army is tough for an individual who likes to explore the unknown and take risks. This is because working in the military requires one to follow established procedures with minimal deviations. Departure from the policies and procedures exposes one to many consequences depending on the severity of the action ( Dave, 2011; Kotler, et al, 2012).

A business course that incorporates sales is what excites many business students because of the real world exposure and the experience gained at work. Sales expose one to some challenges that not only make you smart but determined to improve on the shortcomings identified. This makes one stronger and motivated to continue improving. The desire to improve and grow is what makes sales people exceptionally essential for the success of any business irrespective of its nature or size. Having military and sales knowledge is something that many desire because of the differences between the two careers that some do not believe can be integrated ( Dave, 2011; Kotler, et al, 2012).

Working in the military exposes one to a whole new set of knowledge that is relevant in the armed forces. This knowledge can be used to develop successful business ideas that I can implement. The military has been a source of new insights, but this is used within its ranks. Governments and other institutions utilize the knowledge to develop solutions to emerging problems and to remain competitive ( Dave, 2011; Maule, 2011)

Being in the military not only exposes you to the information but its application and results. It enables you to focus on a particular area of interest and develop the same to its full potential. This is something that one can use to grow their potential in other regions for instance business. The knowledge can be very useful for someone interested in starting their own business ( Dave, 2011; Maule, 2011)

Operating your own business has been envy to many. The majority of students think of starting their own side business to support them in paying their bills. These companies usually do not operate for an extended period because their primary objective was short term profitability and not wealth creation. Once the owner of business gets an employment opportunity they usually close down the business and opt to remain in employment for the rest of their productive lives. Another challenge is that most of the future entrepreneurs are not resilient and patient enough to grow their business ( Dave, 2011; Kotler, et al, 2012).

Potential SMEs are motivated by profits and are not willing in developing fundamentals in the firm to reap the benefits in the future. They close down the business once they realize that it is not performing as intended. This is a challenge that an entrepreneur with military knowledge can quickly solve. I believe that any business requires patience and a clear understanding of the reasons that are hampering its growth. The company started with the sole aim of making a profit is likely to fail if this objective is not achieved. It is at this point that I feel I have what it takes to overcome this problem ( Dave, 2011; Kotler, et al, 2012).

In military training, one studies strategies to counter an opponent irrespective of the situation. You are aware of the different approaches that you can use to address an issue. Knowledge of military maneuvers can be very useful in real life business environments that are becoming competitive with time. Armed with this knowledge, you are equipped to face any form of challenges facing the business in a dynamic environment. This is profound in a global environment where multinationals have outlets throughout the world ( Raduan, et al 2009; David, 2011) .

Globalization has opened up new opportunities while creating some challenges for businesses. Technology has flattened the business environment making it possible for companies to operate in real time at any point of the world. This makes it possible for businesses to reach new markets easily compared to past years. However, this has brought in new challenges as new competitors emerge and new channels emerge. This, therefore, calls for businesses to be responsive to disruptions that affect their operations. Knowledge in military and business will address these issues by making companies sensitive to emerging threats of any nature. An entrepreneur is also in a better position to protect its market while developing strategies for expanding into competitors markets. In a globalized world, culture is an important aspect that a business lady needs to address ( Dave, 2011; Kotler, et al, 2012).

The military has its distinct culture whereas businesses have their unique culture. Culture plays a significant role in the success of any undertaking. A lady who is conversant with military culture and business culture will be best placed to manage a start-up and incorporate the two to have a hybrid that reflects the business needs. Success in such organization is imminent as the ability to blend different culture is key to managing a business. In this regards, you understand and appreciate the differences in culture and utilize the skills of individual employees to reap the maximum output of each (Meirose, Lee, 2010).

As a business lady of the 21st century, I will need to understand what culture best suits my job once I start it. As a sales lady, I will be able to understand the different ways of life of various people I will encounter in the course of my day to day work. A strong sales lady needs to understand these differences to be outstanding and to convince potential clients. Building a career from military to sales and then to a business owner will help me in serving the society by meeting their needs to solve their problems (Meirose, Lee, 2010).

Summary

A course in business makes one all rounded person who can engage in different forms of employment in public, private and not for profit organizations. There are many opportunities available for studying business from marketing, sales, procurement, human resource, international trade, logistics, accounting, and finance, etc. A student with business skills and military experience will have an added advantage of integrating the two and bringing a hybrid of knowledge and expertise that not only address the current business needs but also creates an exceptionally vibrant individual relevant to the future business undertakings. This, in particular, will be helpful to a sales person who needs to be dynamic and accommodative to any new situations.

Conclusion

I believe that by shifting from military to business not only exposes me to an entirely new area in my career but also opens a whole new range of opportunities that I can be able to utilize to better the life of a society and build my business empire using the knowledge gained from the different areas. Integrating military and business is one of the major decision I have taken that I will never regret. I believe it is the starting point to a brighter future. In achieving this, I think that the society, in general, will benefit from my Knowledge and I will be looking forward to supporting people in need not only financially but also spiritually and emotionally.
