Dreams are marked by the sense of a representation of wish fulfillment. According to Freud, dreams should be viewed as the representation of impulse in early childhood especially if the wishes become repressed. This essay entails the discussion on the interpretational statement Freud gave that the interpretation of dreams is the royal road to knowledge of the unconscious activities of the mind.

As per Freud's discussion on the interpretation of the dreams, every dream is a representative of a perceived imaginary fulfillment of an impulse in the childhood particularly before the wishes are repressed. The repressed thoughts and wishes are assumed to be infantile in state and importantly unacceptable ideas and needs of an individual. Nevertheless, as the person engages in sleep the state of the buffer is compromised and censorship weakened. As per his assumption, Freud believed that his claimed censor was meant to service the existing ego within an individual. On a precise façade, Freud was for the idea that censor should be considered a self-preservative practice and functionality which are in line with the belief that volition and functions superseded and took over the practices and functions of the individual preservative states. The images in a dream represent unconscious thoughts disguised through distorting mechanisms and symbolization. Importantly, Freud has confirmed the existence of a censor which is the mechanism for the exclusion of unconscious thoughts and wishes specifically during the conscious situation.
